The whole couplet is
Very cold and self-aware, a piece of music lingers in this life.
background
The four sisters of the Zhang family in Hefei are all talented women, and the four sisters are even more versatile. Wang Dao's new work "A Harmonious Life" describes Zhang Chong's ordinary and full life, and shows us the fate choice and artistic pursuit of a talented woman in troubled times and the Republic of China.
Blessed land: Qingdao
Mr. Wang Dao strung together his life of reconciliation with eight landmarks, namely, Hefei as a child, Suzhou as a girl, Shanghai as a middle school student, Qingdao in convalescence, Kunming in refuge, Chongqing during the Anti-Japanese War, marriage in Beiping and the second half of the United States. This regional historical writing clearly outlines Chonghe's life track, and each place has left different marks on her, which also represents her life choices and circumstances in different periods. Among all these landmarks, Qingdao is a watershed and a "blessed land".
The phrase "blessed land" was said by Mr. Wang Dao at the launching ceremony of Qingdao, and I agree with it very much. Wang Dao said: I came to Qingdao to hold the launching ceremony because Qingdao is the "blessed land" of Zhang Chonghe. Although she didn't stay in Qingdao for a long time, it was a watershed in her life. After more than a year's rest in Qingdao, I really realized rebirth, from despair of life to active life after a serious illness.
The day before the conference, Wang Dao and I made a special trip to find Zhang Chonghe's residence in Qingdao, a villa on Taiping Road and the former residence of Nanxun Confucian businessman Liu Jinzao. We got off at Taiping Road near Qingdao Daily and climbed a fence, where we could see many old villas. A photo of Zhang Chonghe in front of the villa was included in The Life of Reconciliation. We looked for it by comparing photos, but we never saw a villa in the photos. Later, we saw several old people. They studied the photos carefully and told them that the place in the photos had been demolished and the villa no longer existed. Although we feel a little sorry, this sea area is really suitable for recuperation. Although there are so many tourists now, this area must have been picturesque in those days, which made Chonghe feel the beauty of life and endless imagination for the future.

The four sisters in Hefei are typical representatives of the big family in the Republic of China. The circle of friends formed by the four sisters in Hefei is very strong, and almost the whole cultural circle of the Republic of China can appear in their circle of friends. After reading this book, there are roughly five noble people who are very important to Chonghe's life.
The first nobleman: the aunt and grandmother who raised Chong and grew up are educated.
When Zhang Chonghe was a baby, he was taken to Longmen Lane, his hometown in Hefei, and adopted by his aunt. Shi Xiu, the daughter of Li Hongzhang's fourth brother Li, married Zhang Huaqi, the second son of Zhang Shusheng. Li Hongzhang and Zhang Shusheng are the No.1 and No.2 figures of the Huai Army, and the two families have been married for generations. Zhang Huaqi died young. Since then, Zhixiu has converted to Buddhism, become a layman and take care of the family's heritage. Zhixiu has invisible magic and prestige in the family, and cares for Chonghe infinitely.
Children in the front row (from left): Zhao He, Yin He, Zonghe, Yunhe and Yuanhe.
When she was a little older, she began to find good teachers for her everywhere. I have high hopes for her and don't want her to fall behind in her studies because she is adopted by herself. In order to hire a famous teacher, she did not hesitate to spend several times her salary. Among them, Zuo Lvkuan, a gifted scholar in Lu 'an, was responsible for teaching her ancient prose and poetry; Archaeologist Zhu, a disciple of Wu Changshuo, is responsible for teaching Chonghe calligraphy. Zhang Chonghe is very talented and smart. At the age of 4, I can recite poems, and at the age of 6, I can read. In this case, in 10, he studied the Historical Records, Hanshu, Zuozhuan and The Book of Songs behind closed doors. Chonghe always felt that these two teachers laid the foundation for her Chinese studies.
Knowing how to repair and carefully construct a fixed classroom, she inadvertently opened up a second classroom for her. Her faith inadvertently endowed her with full philosophy, Zen and compassion, or a kind of practice.
In the spring when Chonghe was seventeen, he died at the age of sixty-seven. Every detail of Zhanggongguan in Jiumen Lane, Hefei, is deeply imprinted in my memory. After Ji Xiu's death, Zhang Mansion suddenly became empty, and the human fillings originally accumulated by Chong and his aunt Ji Xiu suddenly collapsed. Chonghe will leave here and return to his long-lost "home" Suzhou Jiuru Lane.
Knowledge accomplishment not only left her a lot of wealth, but also laid her childhood character and obsession with old learning. The influence of childhood is here, which can be said to have laid the foundation of her life and is an indelible achievement.
The second noble: Kunqu teacher Shen Chuanzhi
1930, in the winter after the death of my aunt and uncle, Chonghe returned to Suzhou Jiuru Lane to attend the girls' middle school founded by his father Zhang. My father is a new educator. Le Yi Girls' Middle School, which he founded, offered new courses such as Kunqu Opera, fine arts, drama, flowers and trees, cooking and so on. Cultivate children's interest in Kunqu opera and encourage them to go out and accept more new studies.
Father Zhang and stepmother are friends who are obsessed with music. They not only teach Kunqu opera in girls' schools, but also invite the leaders of Sichuan School, such as Shen Chuanzhi and Zhang, to teach Kunqu opera. Later, Chonghe mainly studied Kunqu opera with Shen Chuanzhi, who inherited his family studies. His grandfather, uncle, father and uncle are all famous actors in Suzhou Kunqu Opera. Shen Chuanzhi is clean and gentle, with clear singing and gentle voice. He was active in Shanghai and later taught Kunqu Opera in Beijing and Tianjin.
In his life, besides Zuo Lvkuan, a famous poet in his childhood, Zhu, a famous calligrapher, and Shen, a great calligrapher in Chongqing, he also met countless famous teachers. In addition, the main teachers are Shen Chuanzhi, Zhang, Zhao Asi and Li. Kunqu opera made Chonghe discover a different world, a different self, and indulge in it.

Although she is versatile, Kunqu Opera is undoubtedly the main theme of her life and her favorite art in her life. From this perspective, her Kunqu teachers are all her nobles, and Shen Chuanzhi is her most precious guide. After she fell ill, she chose to go to Qingdao for recuperation, which was also related to her teacher Shen Chuanzhi who was teaching Kunqu Opera in Qingdao at that time. At that time, her eldest brother Zhang was preparing to go to Qingdao for a holiday. They are about the same age, have the best feelings and are hardcore friends.
The third nobleman: Hu Shi who appreciates harmony.
Mr. Hu Shi and Chonghe didn't have much in common, but they gave him important support on two key events.
First, after graduating from Shanghai Guanghua High School, Zhang Chonghe applied for Peking University under the pseudonym of Natalie. Because of the basic knowledge of Chinese studies since childhood, I got full marks in Chinese and zero marks in mathematics. In order to admit this underage student, Hu Shi, then dean of Peking University College of Literature, tried his best to admit Natalie, who was called "the new heroine of Peking University" by the newspaper.
When I came to a modern university, I was full of hope for the future. At that time, there were many famous teachers in the Chinese Department of Peking University, including Qian Mu, Feng Youlan, Wen Yiduo and Liu Wendian. Zhang Chonghe has benefited a lot from such a luxurious lineup of professors. But I'm really interested in Kunqu opera. At this time, eldest brother Zonghe made a group of friends in the history department of Tsinghua University, and Chonghe joined in. Zhang, Zhang Jinyi and Bian are almost inseparable.
In his junior year, he asked for leave because of tuberculosis and failed to get a degree from Peking University. She first went to Xiangshan for recuperation, and then transferred to Qingdao for recuperation.
Second, although he dropped out of school due to illness, Hu Shi was very appreciative of Zhang Xuan (Chonghe), a junior college student of that year. So, after he recovered from a serious illness in Qingdao, he invited Chonghe to make up a supplement "Submission" in Nanjing Central Daily. At the same time, he also wrote essays, essays and poems, which showed his literary talent.
After he went to America, he still had some intersection with Mr. Hu Shi. When Mr. Hu Shi was a visiting professor at the University of California, Berkeley, he happened to work in this university library. Mr. Hu Shi often comes to borrow books. He did it for him without filling out the application form. In his spare time, Hu Shi often visits Chonghe's home, and Hu Shi and Hans Hermannt Frankel are old friends.
The fourth nobleman: Shen Congwen, third brother-in-law
Chonghe especially likes and trusts Third Sister Zhang Zhaohe. He always asks his third sister for advice when he meets anything, and then goes to Shanghai Guanghua Experimental School to study in middle school, because third sister teaches in Guanghua. Therefore, when Shen Congwen proposed to the Zhang family, he paid special attention to who this person was and wanted to marry the third sister. After a brief understanding, I turned out to be a good storyteller, gentle, lacking in self-confidence but without hesitation, and finally realized my love dream.
After recovering from a serious illness, China was caught in a continuous war, and he began to take refuge everywhere. 1938, he came to Kunming, where The National SouthWest Associated University elites gathered all over the country. Chonghe lives with his third sister and brother-in-law Shen Congwen. At that time, Shen Congwen was a professor at National Southwest Associated University, and was also responsible for compiling Chinese textbooks for middle schools of the Ministry of Education. Being proficient in ancient Chinese prose and poetry, Shen Congwen recommended Zhang Chonghe to Secretary-General The National SouthWest Associated University and Yang Zhensheng, the representative of the Ministry of Education, to participate in textbook editing. Although in a state of refuge, Kunming has lived a relatively stable life for two years.

Besides career help, Shen Congwen also indirectly became the "matchmaker" of the marriage between Zhang Chonghe and Hans Hermannt Frankel.
After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, Shen Congwen's family returned to Beiping. 1947, Chonghe also went to Beiping to substitute for Peking University, teaching Kunqu opera and calligraphy, with the help of the third sister's family. At that time, Shenyang was a gathering place for intellectuals in Beijing. Yang Zhensheng, Zhu Guangqian, He Lin, Feng Zhi and Bian are all regular visitors to Shenyang. 1948 In March, a foreign guest, Hans Hermannt Frankel, a German-American sinologist, was welcomed to Shen Congwen's home at No.32, Zhonglao Hutong. Because he admired Shen Congwen's literary talent, he got to know Shen Congwen through Ji Xianlin's introduction.
Unexpectedly, this foreigner mingled with Shen Congwen's two children, Long Zhu and Hu Xiao, and often visited Shen. This direct, simple and elegant westerner in China attracted Zheng He's attention. Slowly, the two hearts began to get closer. Shen Congwen is also observing this Mr. Yang. He thinks that Mr. Fu is more interested in Chonghe than in him. Since then, every time he came, Brother Shen directly said "make peace". The children are getting closer. When they saw Hans Hermannt Frankel, they shouted "Fourth Aunt Fu Bobo".
In 2009 10, Hans Hermannt Frankel, a German-American professor, and Zhang Chonghe, a Peking University teacher, got married in Beiping. This year, Zhang Chonghe was 35 years old and Hans Hermannt Frankel was 32 years old.

/kloc-in October, Zhang Chonghe and Hans Hermannt Frankel took "General Gordon" to the United States.
From Shen Congwen's first proposal to Zhao He in Suzhou to his departure from China in 1949, he spent most of his time with Third Sister and Shen Congwen. The third sister is Shen Congwen's intimate sister, and her brother-in-law Shen Congwen is undoubtedly an important noble. From career to love, Shen has helped him directly or indirectly.
The fifth nobleman: her husband Hans Hermannt Frankel.
Late love is always so warm. Although they got married in a hurry, they spent the rest of their lives with foreign professor Hans Hermannt Frankel.
In those years when they first arrived in America, their lives were not smooth. Neither of them has a full-time job. They first went to Stanford University where Hans' parents lived for a while. Later, with the help of friends, they entered California State University to work. Hans Hermannt Frankel is engaged in the study of China's history and culture, and is responsible for the cataloging of Chinese books in the library. The hard life lasted for ten years. Their life didn't settle down until 1959, when Hans Hermannt Frankel got her doctorate and entered Stanford University to teach (full-time). 196 1 year, Hans Hermannt Frankel was hired as an associate professor by the East Asia Department of Yale University. Soon after, Zhang Chonghe was also hired by Yale University to teach Kunqu Opera and calligraphy.
During this period, many domestic friends, including Zong He, advised Chong Chong to return to China, but she did not take action. She reassured Hans to do his favorite professional research and take on more family affairs, because she saw Hans' dedication and dedication to China culture. Chonghe attributed her calligraphy art to the support and contribution of Hans, the first reader of her calligraphy. Hansi also fully supports his wife's Kunqu opera career and regards her Kunqu opera career as part of her work. After each performance, Hans will record the actors, flutes, backstage, explanations and other aspects for subsequent discussion and research.
"It's very cold, keeping a close friend is a song that will linger in my life", by Zhang Chonghe, 1985.
Hans doesn't want his wife to fall into a routine. She should be as free as a poet. His wife's experience is a reference for Hans to study China's poems. They seem to get along in an ordinary way and are endowed with mysterious poetry.
Sometimes I feel that what I long for is only the scene of human music. She took Kunqu opera across Qian Shan and finally settled in a foreign country, Beigang. Huei-fang, who came out of the chaos, walked into her own small garden of life, just like her life in a little book.
