What is the role of state-owned sages in governing the country?
The political function of governing the country is governed by the sages in the country.

"If the country has a large number of sages, the country will be governed by thick; The lack of sages reflects the important role of talents in national development. The political function of education is to influence the political and economic system by cultivating talents needed by the political economy.

From Mozi's Shang Xian Lun in the Warring States Period. It means that the country has more sages and talents, and the governance of the country will be stable; On the contrary, if there are few wise men and talents, national governance will be weak.

Excerpted from the original text of Mozi Shang Xian;

Zi Mozi said: "Today's princes and adults govern the country, all of which are to enrich the country and strengthen the country, and to rule by criminal law. However, if you can't be rich, you will be poor. If you can't be less, you will get it. If you can't be chaotic, you will get it. If you get it, you will get it. What is the reason? "

Zi Mozi said: "it is the governors who govern the country, and they cannot govern with the ability of being virtuous." Therefore, there are many sages in the country, and the rule of the country is thick; If there are few virtuous people, this country will be governed very weakly. Therefore, the matter of adults must lie in the sages. "

Translation:

Mozi said: now governors govern the country, and they all want the country to be rich and strong, with a large population and strict political discipline. But in this way, the country will be poor instead of rich and strong, and the population will decrease instead of increasing. Political discipline will not control chaos, they will completely lose what they want and get what they hate. What is the reason?

Mozi said: this is because princes can't respect sages and make people govern the country. In a country, if there are many virtuous people, then the country's political achievements will be great; If there are few people with virtue, the country's political achievements will be small. Therefore, the urgent task of governors will be how to increase the number of sages.
