As a special economic zone, why is Xiamen developing far less than Shenzhen?
The biggest gap is that Shenzhen relies on Hong Kong, which has returned to China for 20 years, while Xiamen relies on Taiwan Province Province, which does not know when it will return to China and wants to be independent. This is the root cause of the biggest difference between Shenzhen and Xiamen.

It's not that the place is small, but that this place has no other attractions except the good environment. Unable to attract talents, this is the most critical. Xiamen Island is OK, and there are many places outside the island that can be developed and built. Why didn't anyone develop and build it?

Because Zhuhai and Shantou are not cities with separate plans, they are not as developed as Shenzhen and Xiamen, but Zhuhai is adjacent to Macao and Hong Kong, and its geographical position is unique than Shantou. It can be connected with the first bridge in Hong Kong. Universities in Macau have all gone to Zhuhai, so Zhuhai has developed better than Shantou! Before Shantou, there was nothing but the name of a special economic zone!

For example, Xiamen, as a sub-provincial city, has a rainbow absorption effect on the surrounding Zhang Quan. Shantou Jiechao is a prefecture-level city. At the level, no one is convinced. They are mutually exclusive and restrictive, and cannot share the economic achievements. If Shantou is a sub-provincial city, it will be developed first and its resources will be more substantial.

What's the comparison between Xiamen and Shenzhen? I come from Fujian and do business in Futian, Shenzhen. Economically speaking, one Shenzhen can explode five Xiamen, and the greening is definitely higher in Shenzhen. The essence of Xiamen is in the island, only one or two towns, and the four districts outside the island are not as good as a bright new district! After all, how can Xiamen's confidence compare with Shenzhen's?

I am more optimistic about Shenzhen, which is developing at an amazing speed. Now Shenzhen can compete with Hong Kong economically. Think about it. Thirty years ago, did Shenzhen dare to think that it could catch up with Hong Kong one day? The Pearl River Delta Economic Circle where Shenzhen is located has gained more resources and opportunities. After all, the Pearl River Delta urban agglomeration is quite developed. Xiamen itself is too small to expand into a megacity. Moreover, the strength of the Haixi economic circle where it is located is not the same as that of the Pearl River Delta.
