If breast milk is sucked out, it will be kept at different temperatures for different times.
Different organizations give different opinions.
The following picture is the latest breast milk storage guide of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the United States, which is very detailed. (From Easy Win Education).
I usually tell the wet nurses the rules of "333" and "555" the most because they are simple and easy to remember.
For premature babies and sick babies, breast milk should be preserved according to "333", at room temperature for 3 hours, in cold storage for 3 days and in cold storage for 3 months.
For full-term healthy babies, breast milk should be stored according to "555", at room temperature for 5 hours, refrigerated for 5 days and refrigerated for 5 months.
By the way, when storing breast milk in the refrigerator, try to put it in a separate refrigerator drawer, not on the refrigerator door, because the temperature is constant.
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that newborns within 6 months should stick to exclusive breastfeeding, and if possible, it is best to breastfeed their children until they are 2 years old. Nowadays, many people will say that milk has no nutrition after four or five months, which is sheer nonsense.
With the growth of children's age, milk will become thinner, but this is only because the content of protein and fat in breast milk has decreased, while other important ingredients are still incomparable to formula milk powder. As for the problem that some mothers have less and less milk in the later period, it is mainly because they do not adhere to the correct breastfeeding posture and are malnourished.
Since breast milk is so important, it is of course better to feed yourself every day. It is true that breastfeeding is the best way, but not everyone can breastfeed their children all the time. Going out or going to work will hinder this matter. If you can't feed yourself, it is the best choice to suck breast milk with a breast pump to feed your child. But it is a pity that many mothers do not pay attention to some necessary sanitary conditions and preservation methods, which leads to breast milk being infected by bacteria in the air and even deteriorating. Children who eat spoiled breast milk will naturally cause adverse reactions such as diarrhea, which will be life-threatening in severe cases.
In order to ensure the safety and health of preserved breast milk, we must first understand what kind of milk storage products are safe. Generally speaking, it is best to choose glassware that can be sealed. If you can't find such products, hard plastic containers, PP or glass storage bottles and PE milk storage bags are also good choices.
Secondly, you must know the storage conditions of breast milk. Studies have shown that breast milk can be stored for 48 hours at about 4℃. However, it is difficult to keep our refrigerator at this temperature, and the constant opening and closing of the refrigerator door will also affect the temperature balance, which will cause the temperature of the freezer to fluctuate. Therefore, it is suggested that the sucked breast milk should not be stored in the refrigerator for more than 12 hours, and should not be placed near the refrigerator door. The farther you can put it, the more balanced the temperature is.
If stored in the freezer, breast milk can be stored for 3~6 months at-18℃. But if it is at room temperature, it is best not to suck out breast milk for more than 3 hours. At the same time, in order to prevent children from eating expired breast milk, it is suggested that every time breast milk is sucked out, it should be labeled and the date of breast milk preservation should be filled in to prevent confusion. Expired breast milk must be disposed of and not given to children.
