At present, China Renmin University has become a comprehensive research university focusing on humanities, social sciences and management sciences, as well as information science and environmental science.

In 2004, in order to strengthen the resource integration of online education and continuing education in China Renmin University and realize the development goal of creating a world-class online university, the online education college of China Renmin University merged with the adult higher education college to form the continuing education college of China Renmin University. After more than seven years' efforts, China Renmin University's online education has been in the leading position in China, and "Online People's Congress" has become one of the most influential online universities in China.
