You have to know these five stages of education to study in Britain.
British students begin to receive compulsory education at the age of three or four and enjoy free state welfare. The differences between Chinese and English education systems make it impossible for students of the two countries to correspond in age and academic level. Here, Bailey studied abroad to introduce the British education system.

The first stage: primary education (3- 1 1 year)

British primary education is divided into three stages:

The first stage is called the basic stage.

In fact, this stage is equivalent to the kindergarten stage. Children begin to enter school at the age of three or four, just like children in kindergartens in China, and play is the main way to cultivate children's practical ability and sense of cooperation in the process of playing.

The second stage is called stage 1.

It is equivalent to Grade One and Grade Two in China, which are Year 1 and Year2 respectively. Children generally enter year1from the age of five;

The third stage is called the second stage.

From grade three to grade six, they all belong to the second stage, namely grade three, grade four, grade five and grade six. After the sixth grade, I entered middle school.

The second stage: secondary education (12- 16 years old)

Middle schools in Britain are divided into junior high schools and senior high schools, with a total of five years from grade one to grade five.

British students have to study many subjects in the secondary education curriculum before 14 years old, and take the 3 (key stage 3) exam at 14 years old. Bailitianxia said that from the age of 14, students need to study four or five elective courses in addition to core courses such as English, mathematics and science.

Two years later, 16 years old, I took the 4 (key stage 4 exam, that is, GCSE exam or IGCSE exam.

Reminder: There are fewer foreign students studying GCSE in China, which is only suitable for young students under 16 years old.

The third stage: continuing education (16- 18 years old)

Continuing education is the most distinctive and wonderful part of the British education system. It is "higher education" after primary education and secondary education. Generally speaking, the age of students receiving continuing education is between 16- 18.

Continuing education is divided into two systems: academic route and career route. The academic route focuses on cultivating talents in academic research, and the career route combines the professional needs of all levels of society to cultivate talents with specialized skills and knowledge in various industries.

Academic route: A-level. The full name of A-Level is "Advanced Certificate of General Education", with a total of more than 65,438+000 subjects. The general academic system is two years, and the professional disciplines are extremely detailed. Bailey explained that although the age of students taking such courses is between 16 and 18, it is definitely not the same as the courses that our students in China study in high school. We tend to take A-Level as the basic course of university, which is equivalent to the first two years of undergraduate course in China University.

Vocal route: gnvq. GNVQ (National General Vocational Diploma) is a wide range of vocational education courses, which are parallel to A-Level in academic route, but not inferior to such courses in academic depth and difficulty. From beauticians to graphic designers, from baby care to aircraft maintenance. It is reported that its learning style is flexible and diverse. Students can arrange courses according to their own needs and hobbies, choose credit system or modular learning methods, and even work in the process of learning, and finally choose their favorite career while studying and working.

There are many foreign students studying A-level courses in China. If you are a sophomore now, you can consider studying A-level for two years. You can apply for undergraduate degree courses directly after graduation, and you don't need to go to the preparatory course.

The fourth stage: undergraduate education (19-2 1 year)

There are about 23,000 degree courses in hundreds of disciplines in British undergraduate education. The diversity of courses ensures that you can find your favorite major.

The undergraduate course is generally three years, and the sandwich course is four years (three years in school, including 1 year internship). Medicine, dentistry, architecture, veterinary medicine, etc. It will take five to seven years. Bailey said that British universities attach great importance to cultivating students' autonomous learning ability, so students usually need to complete a research work and write a paper independently in the last year of undergraduate courses. Schools use this to determine the level of degrees awarded.

Due to the different educational systems between China and Britain, China high school graduates need to take one more year of pre-university courses when applying for British undergraduate courses. Bailey reminds everyone that this pre-university course is specially prepared for international students, which is different from A-level.

The fifth stage: postgraduate education (after the age of 22)

Postgraduate education in Britain is famous for its strict standards and high quality, with many majors and short academic system (especially the masters taught). Therefore, many students from all over the world come to study in Britain every year, especially the Master of Education.

Teaching-oriented master: teaching-oriented, mostly practical. Generally divided into three semesters.

The first and second semesters are mainly lectures, and the third semester is a dissertation. Bailey said that the teaching methods are large classes, special reports and cram schools.

The master's courses taught are intensive, including attending lectures, reading a lot, doing experiments, writing written homework and completing dissertations. Most China students choose this master's course.

Research-oriented master: focusing on research, providing opportunities for students who want to develop professional interests.

Reading this master's degree requires a lot of preparation. Bailitianxia reminds that the school will assign tutors to supervise the research work. Tutors only provide guidance and advice to students. Most of the time, students conduct innovative research by themselves, and finally complete a dissertation of 30,000 to 50,000 words.

Master of Philosophy (MPhil), a research-oriented master, is usually regarded as part of the doctoral program.

Schools often accept students applying for doctoral programs as MPhil students first. If they do well in their research in the first year, they will allow students to pursue doctoral degrees, and their research work during their study in MPhil will be regarded as part of the doctoral research plan.

Doctor's degree is divided into doctor and senior doctor.

Doctoral degrees are awarded in most disciplines. Generally, it takes three years of course study and research, and a dissertation is submitted, and sometimes a written test is needed. The corresponding doctoral degree in medical discipline is MD or DM or doctor of surgery ChM or MCh.

The other is an advanced doctorate (such as doctor of literature Dlitt, doctor of science DSc, doctor of law LLD), which repeatedly commends people who have made outstanding contributions in special disciplines. Winners are usually high-level experts with unique academic characteristics and published a large number of academic works.

Higher Education Diploma and Higher Diploma:

Britain offers two-year or three-year professional courses in some colleges and higher education schools.

After the completion of the two-year course, students can get a higher education diploma if they pass the examination. After graduation, if they apply for undergraduate courses, their two-year courses may be accepted by universities. This three-year project mainly trains vocational college students facing the industry. Students can get a higher diploma after graduation.
