Erasmus, a Humanist Educator —— Philosophical Notes 04 1
Desiderius Erasmus (also translated by Ailas Moss, German: Erasmus? Desidriss? Von Rotterdam, born in a priest's family in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, is the illegitimate child of the daughter of a Catholic priest and a doctor. Erasmus lost his mother when he was a child and was sent to a monastery near Rotterdam by his guardian for education. At the age of twelve, he was proficient in classical literature. After traveling to many countries, he devoted his life to religion and education. Erasmus wrote many works in his life, including Ode to a Fool, Handbook of Christian Knights and On Children's Etiquette. He advocated and respected the humanistic education idea all his life and strongly opposed the school education under the feudal system. He was the main representative of the humanist movement in the European Renaissance at the beginning of the16th century, and was widely concerned and discussed by international academic circles for a long time, forming the international Erasmus study.

First of all, anecdotes about life

Erasmus had a great influence on the thoughts of Martin Luther, the leader of the Reformation. Luther admired and longed to make friends with Erasmus. But later, Martin Luther became hostile to Erasmus, and Martin Luther published On the Constraint of Will to refute him. Since then, Erasmus has publicly accused Martin Luther's article of being a barbaric book.

Although Erasmus was a Catholic all his life, he sharply criticized the Roman Catholic Church, which he considered luxurious at that time, and even refused to accept the position of cardinal granted by the latter.

In "On the Preparation for Death", he stated his view that the guarantee of eternal life lies not in the sacraments and ceremonies in the church, but only in the belief in Christ's atonement.
