Text/Wei Zhiyuan
In a blink of an eye, I entered March. There is no news of spring in Ordos. Not only that, it's snowing today. Spring can only be found in poetry:
Dear March, please come in.
How happy I am-
I've been looking forward to your visit-
……
-Emily Dickinson's Dear March
Every morning, a group of people come into the classroom to listen to the class, starting with the morning recitation and poetry. So I always ask myself: What does morning reading mean? Or, what does it mean to start with a poem every morning?
1
What is morning reading?
Mr. Shen Congwen said a word, which has always been regarded as a footnote for morning reading by Protestant education:
When it is very quiet in the morning, it is terrible to hear birds singing.
Protestantism prefers to say:
Dance with the dawn.
Reciting a poem every morning has become a lesson in some new education courses. We know that every good poem opens a world, and it is so different. Therefore, it is necessary to creatively seek the most suitable way to appreciate a specific poem and pass on the feelings to children.
Even so, like a ceremony, morning reading usually has its own structure:
1, the teacher demonstrates reading and interprets the beauty of poetry with sound (for the next paragraph, it may be more interesting).
Of course, this is in terms of Protestant poetry. In a series, it is often necessary to review old poems before teaching new poems. And there are often opening poems or relatively fixed music running through the whole series.
Many times, when reading the model, the teacher wants to find a beautiful music to recite poetry in the morning. The function of music, like green leaves to flowers, is to set off and make it appear, not to usurp the role of master. Teachers' demonstration reading is not that kind of "beautiful reading", but uses sound to convey the meaning of poetry and the excitement brought by poetry.
After the teacher demonstrated reading aloud, the students read aloud. It can be group reading (in most cases) or individual reading (depending on needs and resources). The purpose is to be familiar with poetry and ensure that you can read it fluently.
2. Understand poetry and try to read aloud.
How to make students understand the beauty of poetry? This requires trying to figure out and practicing, and the purpose of trying to figure out and practicing is to convey understanding with sound. There are various ways to understand, or ask questions about key sentences, or discuss reading aloud, or explain pictures, or introduce another poem or sentence for intertextuality interpretation (or suggestion), or even rewrite the original poem to make students suddenly realize? But this is by no means an accurate Chinese teaching, which requires a long time of practice.
3. Weave with students' life, and students will interpret poetry with sound.
After understanding, it means that students read independently, and finally they have to return to the original poem, or read it together, or read it alone (mostly). At this time, fluency is no longer required, but students are required to convey their understanding and touching of poetry by voice, and often accompanied by music, so that morning reading can exert the greatest artistic effect.
Here, teachers are moved by the development of poetry, and inspiration and creation are crucial. This structure only implies a sense of rhythm, a "romantic-precise-comprehensive" rhythm, and a rhythm in which poetry and life are constantly in deep harmony.

The difficulty of morning reading lies in the teacher's sensitivity to poetry.
Education is essentially the carving of life and "carving roses with time", while beautiful poetry itself is the capture of the most wonderful things in life, "from the lightest fragrance of life to the heavy taste of its heavy fruits".
This sensitivity is not an "instinctive" compliment at the sight of poetry, but a subtle recognition of different types of poetry. This week, the teachers who participated in the training of Hantai gathered in class 09 1 to watch Jin Bo's morning exercise series. One of the poems is like this:
Baihuashu
Because I don't know your name,
Let me call you White Flower Tree.
When your flowers are in full bloom in spring,
It attracts the care of bees and butterflies;
The breeze brings you fragrance,
The days are bright because of you.
It doesn't matter what your name is,
The fragrance I miss is so unforgettable.
Jin Bo is an excellent writer of children's poems, but he is not an outstanding writer like Jin Meiling, let alone a great writer like Tagore. His works are far from masterpieces. This poem is still not a masterpiece, even if it has been revised by the dry teacher (greatly revised), it looks more like a poem. During the discussion, Mr. Gan listed two other poems:
Flowering tree
Xi Murong
How to let you meet me
In my most beautiful moment
for this reason
I prayed in front of the Buddha for 500 years.
Begging him to let us have a dusty relationship.
Then the Buddha turned me into a tree.
Follow the path you may take.
Under?the?sun
Carefully full of flowers.
Every flower carries my previous hopes.
Please listen carefully when you come near.
Trembling leaves
This is the passion I am waiting for.
When you walked under the tree, you didn't notice me.
On the ground behind you
My friend,
Not falling petals
It is my withered heart
The first jasmine flower
Tagore
Oh, these jasmine flowers, these white jasmine flowers!
I seem to remember the first time I held these jasmine flowers and these white jasmine flowers in my hand.
I love the sunshine, the sky and the green earth.
I heard the river gurgling in the dark midnight;
The autumn sunset greeted me in Kaminooji's corner, just like the bride lifted her veil to greet her lover.
But I think of the white jasmine I first held in my hand when I was a child, and my heart is full of sweet memories.
I have had many happy days in my life. I was amused by those jokes on the night of the holiday party.
On a gloomy rainy morning, I sang many elegant poems.
I wear a drunken wreath woven by my lover as an evening dress around my neck.
But I think of the white jasmine I first held in my hand when I was a child, and my heart is full of sweet memories.
Three poems and three realms.
The white tree is like a faint trace, and its core is "fragrance", which is the subtle beauty that this fragrance brings to the poet. But "A Flowering Tree" is an encounter with a dull appearance but a rough heart, and it is a deep love between the poet and a tree that blooms by chance. It is the meeting of two young people and the strong hope of "spring outing, apricot flowers blowing all over the head" In contrast, it cuts into the depth of life, much deeper than Bai Shu. The first jasmine flower is the most penetrating. It touches the most fundamental thing in life, determines life and makes us. The first jasmine flower is a deep and lasting memory in our life, and life suddenly realized itself at a certain moment.
This sensitivity to poetry is the premise of doing a good reading in the morning.

However, for most people, it is very difficult to interpret a poem correctly and properly, which does not mean that it cannot be recited in the morning.
For example, Tagore's The First Jasmine, even if you can't express its meaning properly, it often moves you and brings poetry to children with excitement, no matter how high your understanding of poetry is.
I know what the real difficulty is.
Many Chinese teachers have long lost their touch on poetry and become mechanical practitioners of rigid Chinese knowledge; It regards work as a tool of life and morning reading as extra work, not as a reward for teachers and students; Do you want to simply control your students, but don't devote yourself to your life or even your emotions?
When morning reading is no longer a "bird song" that people dare not degenerate and becomes a burden, morning reading loses its meaning and becomes a mechanical memorization accumulation.
I often think that we all had flying youth, maybe we all had the days of reciting Tang poetry and Song poetry spontaneously, reciting Xi Murong, Tagore or even Wang Guozhen.
The profession of teacher is very hard, but behind every hard work, there is a gift: being with a young life is a gift.
Reviewing poems and reading children's books together, we can live again and again, become young again, become passionate and become passionate about life.
Many mornings, I went into the classroom to listen to morning reading. I don't look at how a teacher operates a poem like an expert. On the contrary, I almost forgot the teacher in class. In just twenty minutes, I was immersed in poetry and let my thoughts wander. Usually at the end of the morning recitation, I also finished feeling, immersing and interpreting a poem. I think a beautiful poem, like a flower, is worth spending some time staring at every morning, just like a poem by Jin Bo said:
If you give me enough time.
I want to stare at a flower for a long time.
From germination to withering
The beauty it shows.
It is the process of life.
I have traveled through time and space in my gaze, and I believe that only in poetic gaze can the soul truly inhabit. In the morning recitation, the first thing to be sculpted is the teacher. Only through the teacher's life can students be truly shaped.
