Southwest University, located under Jinyun Mountain in Beibei District, Chongqing, is the national "21Project", "985 Engineering Advantage Discipline Innovation Platform", "1/65438 Plan" and "20 165438 Plan".

The school was formed in 2005 by the merger of Southwest Normal University, a university directly under the former Ministry of Education, and Southwest Agricultural University, a key university directly under the former Ministry of Agriculture. It turned out that the two schools were built adjacent to each other and of the same origin. They all started to open new schools in China in the southwest of China from 1906. After several developments, it has become a Southwest University directly under the Central Ministry of Education and jointly established by the Ministry of Education and Chongqing.
