South-South cooperation, that is, economic and technological cooperation among developing countries (called "South-South cooperation" because most developing countries are located in the southern hemisphere and the southern hemisphere), is an indispensable and important part of international multilateral cooperation to promote development.
South-South cooperation is an important channel for developing countries to strive for self-reliance and progress, and also an effective means to ensure their effective integration and participation in the world economy. South-South cooperation is the cooperation among developing countries based on their common historical experience and common tasks after independence.
South-South cooperation aims at promoting the ability of developing countries to spread knowledge or experience in all fields of human activities and share them with each other. The main contents include promoting technical and economic cooperation among developing countries, and striving to strengthen exchanges and cooperation in infrastructure construction, energy and environment, small and medium-sized enterprise development, human resource development, health education and other industrial fields.
Cooperation day
In its resolution 58/220 adopted on February 23, 2003, the United Nations General Assembly decided to designate 65438+February 19 as South-South Cooperation Day every year to raise people's awareness of the importance of South-South cooperation. The General Assembly urged all relevant United Nations organizations and multilateral institutions to intensify their efforts to effectively mainstream the use of South-South cooperation in the design, formulation and implementation of their regular programmes, and to consider allocating more human, technical and financial resources.
In 2004, the international community commemorated South-South Cooperation Day for the first time. The theme of its activities is: achieving the Millennium Development Goals through South-South cooperation. The United Nations General Assembly decided to change the United Nations Day for South-South Cooperation from1February 9 12 to September 12 from 20 1978 to commemorate the day when the United Nations adopted the United Nations Declaration on South-South Cooperation.
