China's tooth carving technology has a long history. Since the Neolithic Age, ivory has been carved into daily necessities and widely used in life. Ivory combs were found in the tombs of the Warring States period unearthed in Beijing. Ivory is also called "organic gem" because of its solid and fine structure and soft and smooth color, which is very suitable for making handicrafts. However, due to thousands of years of human killing, the number of elephants became less and less. By the Qing Dynasty, it was on the verge of extinction, so ivory became very precious, so Yong Zhengdi ordered the prohibition of making tooth carvings.
It seems that Yong Zhengdi's decision is correct, and the rulers of the Qing Dynasty have begun to protect the ecological environment. Although tooth carving has been banned, it is a traditional folk art in China and cannot be discarded. Therefore, there are still tooth carving craftsmen in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Nanjing, and even foreigners admire the magic of China's tooth carving technology. Tooth carvings can be roughly divided into four categories: figures, animals, flowers and scenery, and scenery is the most popular category.
Although China's tooth carving technology is superb, even foreigners are ashamed, but everything has its good side and bad side. Tooth carvings come from elephants. In order to protect rare animals, I hope people will not blindly pursue this luxurious handicraft. After all, the environment in which we live is the most important.
