East China Normal University, referred to as "East China Normal University", is located in Shanghai and directly under the Ministry of Education of People's Republic of China (PRC). It is a comprehensive research-oriented national key university jointly established by the Ministry of Education and the Shanghai Municipal People's Government. It was rated as "Class A of World-class University Construction", "985 Project" and "21Project", and was selected as "Strong Foundation Plan" and "201Plan".

By March 2020, the school had 4 departments (Earth Science Department, Education Department, Economics and Management Department and Information Department), 30 full-time colleges, 4 colleges, 8 entity research institutes and 2 management colleges (Open Education College/Shanghai Teacher Development College and Innovation and Entrepreneurship College).
