Gratitude is the traditional virtue of the Chinese nation and has become the basic moral law of our traditional culture. However, the lack of gratitude consciousness is a common phenomenon today and should be widely concerned. Gratitude education is an important part of moral education. From the cognitive level, emotional level and practical level, we should educate students with gratitude, gratitude and gratitude through effective measures, so that students can know how to be grateful in their hearts and repay kindness in their actions.
Keywords: gratitude consciousness; Thanksgiving education; moral education
In the traditional culture of China, gratitude has always occupied the mainstream position. The Confucian emphasis on "loyalty, filial piety, chastity and righteousness" gave birth to gratitude consciousness, which was regarded as the root of "humanity", the source of order and the foundation of society. Confucian culture has penetrated into politics, society, family and other levels to the greatest extent, which has become the basic requirement of traditional culture. Now the lack of gratitude consciousness, especially in dealing with interpersonal relationships, has caused great difficulties. There are many reasons for this phenomenon, but our education is hard to blame. We should educate students to be grateful, cultivate their gratitude consciousness and inherit the traditional virtues of the Chinese nation.
First, gratitude consciousness is the basic moral law of traditional culture.
The word "gratitude" is interpreted in Modern Chinese Dictionary as "thanking others for their help". Gratitude is an important theme in human spiritual life and a normal state of mind and emotion recognized by secular society. Some scholars put forward the so-called gratitude, that is, "sincerely admit the kindness and convenience given by nature, society and others." And sincerely return a kind of knowledge, emotion and behavior. " [1] (p13) Gratitude is like the spring water of the soul, which constantly nourishes the soul, makes life full of vitality and sunshine, and enjoys the beauty and happiness of life. Gratitude is from the heart, and it is close at hand. The key is only one thought, and that is gratitude consciousness. "The heart that wants to report" (Chen Shou's biography of the Three Kingdoms, Wu Zhi and Luo Tong) refers to the heart of gratitude. Dr. Ren believes: "Gratitude refers to the psychological requirement that people express their gratitude to others for their kindness and strive to repay them. It is a common code of conduct of human society and a basic moral law recognized by any culture. " [2](P93)
The Chinese nation is the most grateful nation, and there are countless records in our culture, such as filial piety classics such as "both loyalty and filial piety", "looking at the clouds and thinking of relatives", "writing letters to save my father", "adoptive parents in colorful clothes", "crying bamboo shoots", "saving my father by killing tigers" and "returning my mother in a cage". Left a touching poem "How much love there is only an inch of long grass, and enjoy three rays of spring" (Meng Jiao's "Wanderer"); It is widely circulated that "kindness wants to report, resentment wants to forget; The classic saying that "paying off a debt is short, but paying off a debt is long" (Disciples' Rules) reflects the ancient people's recognition and admiration for "paying off a debt". Gratitude is a traditional virtue of the Chinese nation, a philosophy of life, and a person's correct understanding of himself, others and social relations. Gratitude is also a responsibility. Repaying kindness with kindness is not only an emotion, but also a reflection of the realm of life. "The grace of dripping water should be reported by the spring", and this gentleman also; "Return evil for kindness, ingratitude", this villain also.
In the traditional Confucian culture of China, the principle of gratitude can be seen everywhere in Confucian classics. "The feelings of feedback and gratitude revealed here are really warm and touching. It not only embodies the consciousness of the root of life, but also represents the relationship and emotion that human beings originated from animals and surpassed the nature of animals. " [3](P20) People are different from ordinary animals. People have feelings, morals, thoughts and a sense of justice. No. Because the mainstream culture of China society has always been Confucian culture, the concepts and values of China people are based on Confucian ethics, from the so-called "three-year mourning" to the so-called "difference between man and bird" by Mencius and Wang Chuanshan. From Mencius' educational goal of "being a wise man" to Zhang's "repay your kindness when you are excited" (Zhou Lexuan, the mayor of Jiji Town); From filial piety in the field of blood, affection and affection to loyalty in the political field; From filial piety to filial piety in Han Dynasty, gratitude is regarded as the basic moral criterion, and gratitude consciousness has become the basic value belief and cultural standpoint of China tradition and the basic moral law of China traditional culture.
It is true that the maximization of feudal gratitude consciousness led to "cannibalism", and some feudal superstitions and feudal dross appeared. However, there are many reasonable elements and factors in these gratitude consciousness, which are still excellent cultures that we should inherit and surpass. The traditional moral standards of the Chinese nation should not be completely abandoned, but should still be carried forward as a link to maintain and promote social progress and development.
Second, the lack of gratitude and its causes
At present, the lack of gratitude consciousness is very common. People enjoy the sunshine and rain given by nature, but they are wantonly destroying the environment where they live together day and night. In the face of parents' kindness, the concept of filial piety and support has been greatly discounted in many people's hearts, even indifferent, only knowing the benefits and not being grateful; Enjoy the happiness brought by others, only know how to take, but don't know how to pay; In dealing with interpersonal relationships, only "I" is the center, and human feelings are weak. I can't be kind to others, I only know how to be loved, and I don't know how to return it. Children who grow up under the nourishment of the motherland take the care given by the state and society for granted, only accept it, but don't know the responsibility ... The gratitude gradually fades. The "gratitude consciousness" has faded to the point of scarcity. Children don't know how to thank nature for its nourishment, let alone their parents for their upbringing. I don't know how to thank the teacher for his teaching; I don't know how to thank the motherland and society for their kindness. What makes us lose our gratitude?
The author believes that the education of society, family and school is hard to blame for the lack of gratitude consciousness. In the traditional concept of Confucianism, gratitude is a primitive emotion based on natural consanguinity, and it is a substantial relationship maintained by consanguinity and emotion. Modern consciousness emphasizes the relationship between rights and obligations and contractual relationship, which is just the opposite of the substantive relationship maintained by blood and emotion in our traditional concept. In addition, due to the influence of some unhealthy trends in today's society, the balance between money and interests has taken its place.
At present, the social environment lacks the soil to produce gratitude consciousness. In addition, the society is in a period of transition and transformation, and some basic human nature is challenged under the lack of morality. People are generally too self-centered, don't care about the relationship with others, and don't care about the development of society, and gradually forget that we can never be happy. If people around us don't love us, we can't be successful forever, and if the whole society falls behind, we can't be happy forever.
Of course, the first thing we should reflect on is that our family education rarely teaches children to be grateful. At home, children are the center of family concern, with unlimited rights and zero obligations. In real life, parents just stare at their children's learning, and everything revolves around intelligence. It is important to focus on the key points, read famous brands and achieve great things, but it ignores the most basic moral and gratitude education and forgets how to educate children to be upright people. Children accustomed to nature, in the long run, parents' efforts and demands are taken for granted. Without any guilt, children will feel that everything others do for them is taken for granted, and there is no emotional experience such as gratitude at all. Children are in a spoiled family environment, do not know how to repay, do not know how to appreciate and cherish, and are unwilling to give back to others and society with their own efforts. This is the embodiment of the lack of "gratitude" consciousness. The key to reflecting on the deep root of children's lack of gratitude consciousness is the proliferation of "love". Today's children get too much "love", too one-way and too single, which makes them numb to love. Parents only fulfill the obligation of "giving" and don't talk about the right of "taking".
School education is "cramming" knowledge education, while moral education often takes some "tall, big and all-round" figures as examples for children. Children cultivate infinite heroism and idealism, lack feelings for life and small things around them, and can't feel the feeling of "gratitude". Therefore, our education system has not planted the seeds of gratitude to the people and things around us in children's hearts. Children who grow up like this.
Some people pursue the so-called "individuality" and "freedom" in the west, thinking that human freedom is simply individualization, expanding "individuality" and centering on "self". They believe in freedom and attachment, and believe that filial piety is the embodiment of cultural dross. The lack of "gratitude consciousness" is fundamentally the result of the abandonment of excellent traditional culture.
Building a harmonious society should first be the harmony of interpersonal relationships. People should consciously be polite and honest, care for and love each other, and help and love each other like brothers. "A person lives not only for himself, but also for others because of some complicated feelings." One of the feelings is kindness, because kindness. Kindness is a good bond between people, and it is also a bond between countries, regions, families and people, thus supporting a society. [4](P 196) Therefore, everyone in society should be grateful. As the basic moral value orientation of a harmonious society, gratitude is the source of family moral value.
