The requirements of high school English vocabulary vary from person to person, but generally speaking, high school students should master a vocabulary of about 2,500 to 5,000 words. This vocabulary range can meet the needs of senior high school students in basic English communication, reading and writing. Specifically, the new English Curriculum Standard for Senior High School (20 17 edition) revised in 2020 requires a vocabulary of 3,000 words, of which 2,000 words are compulsory (including compulsory education vocabulary) and 1000 words are optional. At the same time, all localities are required to choose to add 200 words according to the actual situation. There are eight different versions of the new English textbooks for senior high schools in China, with a total vocabulary of 5000 words.
