There is a place called "General Temple" in Xiamen. How did it get its name? Is there really a general here
In Xiamen, many people know the place of General Temple. There is not only a bus stop called Jiangjunmiao Station, but also a Jiangjunmiao Station on xiamen metro 1 Line. As for the story behind the general's shrine, there is something to say.

The origin of the name of the General Temple: The General Temple, named after two ancestral halls and nearly ten memorial archways, is the ancestral hall of "General Jinghai" Shi Lang and "General Willow" Wu Ying. Over time, this place was called "General Temple".

Historically, General Shi Lang and Wu Ying were both subordinates of Zheng Chenggong. General Shi Lang was an important general in the early Qing Dynasty and made great contributions to the liberation of Taiwan Province Province and the reunification of China. General Wu Ying attacked Taiwan Province Province, which was unified after the Qing Dynasty, with Shi Lang, and then led many people to open up wasteland, one side benefited and actively spread Mazu culture.

Destroyed by war: Due to historical reasons, ancestral halls and memorial archways have been completely destroyed. Only "General Temple" is still a place name. Among them, the ancestral temple of Shi Lang Temple was demolished by the rebels of Xiamen Knife Association on the grounds of "betraying Zheng Chenggong". In the third year of Xianfeng (1853), the southern Fujian Knife Association broke out, and the rebels landed from Yunyou Port, sweeping all the way, and the Shishi Ancestral Hall and memorial archway were destroyed.

Wu Ying Ancestral Temple was burned down by the Japanese army, because the dock workers in Wu resisted the loading and unloading of Japanese goods, and the Japanese army held a grudge and destroyed all the buildings in Wu. Nowadays, the general's office is just an empty name, which makes people feel sad.

Zhang Xilin, a local poet in Qianlong period of Qing Dynasty, wrote a poem "Hou Shi Temple": He succeeded in Antarctic Temple and left the temple on the river bank. At dusk, the west wind rises, and I still think about the dust. There is also a poem "Temple of General Wu": Willy was not born, and Fujian was in An Lan. Passers-by turn around, the balcony is cold.

Geographically, Jiangjun Temple is mainly a square surrounded by urban main roads such as Xiahe Road, Wen Yuan Road and Gongyuan East Road. The general shrine is a place name, and it is also the general name of a region. At that time, the General Temple was a small hill, which could reach Wanshou Road, Wenzao Road, Xiahe Road and other places. It was a traffic fortress.

Shi Lang continued to be the prefect of Fujian Navy after Taiwan Province Province was established, and he was in Xiamen in 13. During this period, he set up Xiamen Customs, invited Xiamen to expand the city, and devoted himself to "training farmers through trade", which prospered Xiamen's social economy and culture. When Shi Lang was alive, his ministry would build a shrine for Shi Lang at the foot of Yang Tai Mountain to commemorate his achievements, but the shrine was built without the approval of the emperor and turned into a private school. During the Xianfeng period, the private school was destroyed by the Xiamen Knife Association and disappeared from then on. However, five or six memorial archways for generals were erected on the original site of Shi Lang Shengci.

The Historical Changes of Jiangjun Temple Before liberation, Jiangjun Temple became desolate, belonging to the urban-rural fringe, surrounded by Xicuo and Tacuo villages. In the early days of liberation, the earliest industrial zone in Xiamen was formed here, with large factories such as rubber factory, battery factory and construction machinery factory. Many factories and Xiamen University No.1 Middle School and 174 Hospital located in Wenyuan Road have brought a lot of popularity to the General Temple.

After 2000, factories moved out one after another. Some of the original factories were demolished and transformed into high-rise residential buildings or office buildings, and some were also transformed into commercial complexes without demolition.

Wu Ying memorial archway remains In the past, there was a beautiful memorial archway at the entrance of Wu Ying ancestral hall, and people liked to take photos with the stone lions on it.

During the fall of Xiamen, the archway was demolished, and only Shishi escaped. Only half of these two stone lions are now buried underground. After years of erosion, the shape of the stone lion has been blurred and it has completely lost its prestige.

Wushi Ancestral Hall Site 1938, Wuying Ancestral Hall, General Hall, was burned by Japanese ronin. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, the Wu clan rebuilt the ancestral hall, 1947. After the Cultural Revolution, Wu's ancestral hall was occupied and became the ward of 174 hospital.

After the ward moved away, the ancestral temple was neglected and fell into disrepair for a long time. The doorframes and window frames of the ancestral temple all fell off, which was very desolate. Now the courtyard of the ancestral temple is full of rubbish, which has become a garbage dump in the community. What is embarrassing is that those beautiful buildings in those days have now fallen into this state.

The significance of the surviving name "General Temple" has been brilliant in history. As a region with profound historical and cultural accumulation, Xiamen Island bears many cultural allusions. The significance of the existence of the general shrine is not only to commemorate these two heroes, but also to remind future generations of this history, and it is also a patriotic education.
