The abolition of the imperial examination system and the establishment of new schools are not only major changes in the history of China's education system, but also directly affect the reconstruction of social, political and academic relations in modern China. Through three different types of cases, this book shows the difficult course of the new education field from 1895 to 1926.
The three cases are: 1895- 19 13. Before and after the abolition of the imperial examination, the new schools in Hunan gradually replaced the original "gentry habits"; 1917 ——1923 During his tenure as president of Peking University, Cai Yuanpei tried to create a "scientific spiritual essence" for Peking University and to establish a "society" that was detached from politics. This book makes an innovative social and historical analysis. 1921-1926, in Jiangxi, a large number of young students who are pursuing progress have been trained by new schools, from which we can see that the formation and development of early organizations in China were embedded in the educational and political pattern of the Republic of China.
The above three topics have become the upper, middle and lower three articles, which are internally related. The "new education field" mentioned in the book is actually two generations of teachers and students during the May 4th Movement. It can be seen from three cases that the changing trend of university and middle school education in those years depended on the political field and situation changes in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China. About the author:
Ying Xing, born in Chongqing, 1968. He is currently a professor at the School of Social Studies, China University of Political Science and Law. He is the author of The Story of Dahe Immigrants Petition (200 1), Morality and Politics in the History of Village Audit:1951-kloc-0/976, The Story of a Mountain Village in Southwest China (2009) and The Politics of Harmony and Resistance: Social Stability in Contemporary Rural China.
