There are 60 students in Class 1 (1) of Chun 'an No.5 Primary School. After only 48 days of study, 30 students know about 2000 words, accounting for 50%. Grade one students in Xiaoshan Jiangsi Primary School 108 students. After 55 days of study, 50 students can read about 2000 words, accounting for 47%. There are 68 students in Class 1 (4) of Huangyan Experimental Primary School. After 70 days of study, 67% of the students know about 2000 words.
These first-year students who have been taught to read can read tens of thousands of children's classics. Students with books such as Fairy Tales, 100,000 Why's and Romance of the Three Kingdoms can often be seen in the classroom in the morning and at noon. Some are studying hard; Some read and talk about the plot in the book. In Zhou Ji, you can only write one or two sentences, but you can write three or four hundred words after you know the words. Idioms and proverbs blurt out. Many students have developed the habit of autonomous learning.

Since then, "direct reading" has aroused great repercussions in society and education, and it has spread rapidly throughout the country and Singapore.
