Why should we assign and correct homework?
Near the end of the term, the school conducted a comprehensive lesson preparation and homework inspection for all subjects. Preparing lessons and correcting homework are two important contents of teachers' daily teaching work, and they are also the key links to improve teaching efficiency. To this end, our school constantly explores more effective lesson preparation, effective homework design and practical forms of homework correction. The guidance office of our school summarizes the lesson preparation and homework of teachers in each class as follows: 1 Chinese lesson preparation and homework check. There are many kinds of Chinese homework corrections and heavy tasks, but all Chinese teachers have finished them in time. Generally speaking, students' homework is carefully and neatly written. Teachers read the instructions carefully, timely, and can give encouragement, which well stimulates students' interest in completing their homework. 1, lesson preparation: all teachers have a serious attitude towards lesson preparation, and the design of lesson preparation notes is well-defined, with clear steps, practical work design and practical feedback from students. The better teachers are: Gao Baoyan, Liu Chunhong, Li Jie, Cao, etc. How do some teachers highlight key points and break through difficulties when preparing lessons? Individual teachers and students' feedback is not strong enough, and their thoughts are not deep enough to better reflect on the solution and guiding ideology of the problem. There are also some teachers who need to do more research on homework design. 2. Phonetic books for lower grades and lesson preparation books for middle and high grades: Phonetic books for the first and second grades are well completed, literacy teaching is the focus for lower grades, teachers' guidance is in place, students' writing is serious, basic strokes are in place, and the structure is beautiful. The middle and senior grades are more careful in preparing lessons, and the writing quality is not as good as that of the lower grades. The teacher corrected it in time and seriously. Teachers should strengthen individual guidance for students with poor writing ability. A considerable number of students in middle and senior grades have incorrect attitudes and serious traces of perfunctory things, so teachers should pay enough attention to them. 3. Wrong question set: Only a small part of the students' wrong question set is carefully sorted out, and it is basically not corrected because of the unclear requirements of the school. But some students attach great importance to it. The writing format of the wrong question set is standardized and meets the requirements of the school. Strengthen the guidance of individual students and correct the attitude of individual students in senior grades. On the contrary, quite a few teachers write carefully and accurately, which is valuable, targeted and recyclable. 4, composition: can complete the required number of articles, students write carefully, standardized format. The teacher's guidance is meticulous, and the students' materials are extensive and life-oriented. The teachers in Class 3 (2) and Class 4 (1) made very detailed corrections, and their comments were very enlightening. Some students imitate too much and lack personality. All grades can write as required, and many classes are carefully corrected. Teachers can correct eyebrows, general approval, good words and good sentence circles. Suggestion: As a rule, students should pay attention to training students to correct their homework, or students should correct each other, because primary school teachers have a heavy task after all. In addition, there should be targeted student feedback after correcting. In students' writing, some teachers correct it carefully, but students don't read it, wasting teachers' thoughts. Think about it, the teacher's requirements are not enough. 5, reading notes: the teacher can correct it in time, and can circle or comment on encouragement appropriately. Most students write carefully and have a wide reading range, which can reflect joint reading. Second, math lesson preparation and homework inspection can be seen from the inspection of lesson preparation, not only paying attention to preparing textbooks, but also paying attention to preparing students. Some teachers have practiced according to the actual situation of different students, and the feedback from students shows that the teachers have made some supplementary explanations on the problems existing in the research and teaching of teaching materials in order to better serve the next stage of teaching. Disadvantages: 1, homework correction still needs to be standardized, and the grade and date cannot be less; 2. Student feedback from individual teachers still needs to be strengthened. 3. Classroom teaching design should pay attention to individual underachievers. 4. Preparing lessons should reflect the hierarchical arrangement of homework, and some classes are too simple. The examination of the wrong problem set is the same as that of Chinese. English lesson preparation and homework check The lesson plans written by the English teachers in our school are detailed and serious, and can be completed in time according to the schedule. Teachers' teaching design can embody new ideas, standardize teaching plans, have clear links and strong operability, and train students solidly. Disadvantages: 1 In after-class reflection, some teachers only wrote the practice of this class, which is general and empty, applicable to any class and lacking pertinence. 2. The design of some teaching plans is relatively simple, which should reflect the hierarchical arrangement. 3. There is no time to correct English homework, it is too simple, it is too straight, or there is only one tick for a big topic. Some students didn't change or the teacher didn't approve it after the change. Third, other teachers' lesson plans have reached the due time for preparing lessons, and they are carefully written, clear-cut, and thoroughly analyzed the key points and difficulties. Disadvantages: Some classes lack blackboard writing and necessary teaching consciousness. Earnestness, standardization and efficiency are the goals we pursue in preparing lessons and correcting homework. I believe that as long as we work hard, we can do it well. Thinking: Classroom teaching is an extremely important part in preparing lessons, listening to lectures, assigning homework and correcting homework. As far as teachers in our school are concerned, there are school-based teaching and research demonstration exchange classes every semester, so it is found that some teachers pay more attention to open classes and demonstration classes than to general classroom teaching. This phenomenon may be found in all schools. The reason is that primary school teachers are basically female teachers. Busy at home every day, staying up late to prepare lessons at night. This kind of life, day after day, year after year, is monotonous and full of pressure, which really makes people tired. Therefore, it is normal and understandable that we have such and such problems in the inspection process. Sometimes I think, how many invisible jobs do teachers have as managers in the process of struggling with students all day? Sometimes, I really feel sorry for our teachers, so in recent years I have been thinking about how to reduce the workload of teachers, save time, prepare lessons efficiently, attend classes, assign homework and correct homework. Unfortunately, there is still no really feasible scheme that satisfies me. As far as the requirements and standards of these links in our school are concerned, there are many shortcomings, but I think at least for teachers. We are constantly thinking and improving ... Below, the following article is reproduced for colleagues to ponder and exchange: ———— The mental process of a middle school teacher's assignment of correcting homework n The breakthrough in the original way of correcting homework stems from a reflection: What is the effect and efficiency of our current way of correcting homework? Since the Chinese class can give a speech three minutes before class, can the math class follow suit? I looked at the mountains of homework on my desk and thought, I don't know how many teachers will face the homework that needs to be corrected every day with joy, especially the math teacher who has been doing it for more than ten years. I'm afraid there is some helplessness. Ask yourself, why should the teacher give the students homework? Is the assignment just out of the inertia of behavior or the conscience of educators? Why should the teacher correct the homework? Because the homework is there? This makes me work overtime every day to correct it. What's the effect? When I was seriously thinking about this problem, I couldn't help thinking. Do people often lack introspection consciousness and desire for things they are very familiar with? Let's talk about the purpose of homework first, so what is the purpose of homework assignment for teachers and students? Feedback students' mastery of what they have learned, so that teachers can take corresponding measures in time; It is to let students consolidate what they have learned and deepen their understanding and mastery; Is there any other purpose? What's more, students can draw inferences from others. Of course, it is best to use what they have learned to understand the world around us from a mathematical point of view. This is the so-called cultivation of students' mathematical literacy. However, can the original practice achieve these wishes well? It's hard! It is difficult for teachers to correct homework in time. Even if the homework can be corrected in time, how many students can pay attention to the homework handed out in time? Even if they notice the problems in their homework and make corresponding changes, it will take a few days to give back to the teacher. What if students make new mistakes while correcting their mistakes? It can be seen that the efficiency of this method is relatively low. It suddenly occurred to me that when I first stepped onto the podium, my business master once said with emotion when the teaching and research group was preparing lessons collectively: If anyone can make some changes in the process of assigning homework and correcting homework without damaging the effect, it will be a great thing for the math teacher. I didn't think so at the time. Isn't this how math teachers have come over for so many years? It's hard for math teachers to correct their homework every day, but isn't this a matter of course? If there is any change, why not change it earlier? At first, I thought that the sense of responsibility was the only pillar for math teachers to keep correcting homework every day. But at this point, I think I should change ... but where should I start? Think back on yourself, what is the most effective way to change your homework? Of course, correcting homework in front of students, because this feedback method is the most timely and accurate, but it is impossible to persist in this way for a long time. After all, every teacher has to face the homework of hundreds of children every day. Where is the breakthrough? This problem has been bothering me for a long time. Until one day, the class preparation bell rang. Although this class is not my math class, the habit of being a head teacher for many years has made me go to one side of the classroom to watch the students attend classes. This is a Chinese class. The children stared at the platform. On the platform, a student is giving a speech three minutes before class. Speaking three minutes before Chinese class has always been the tradition of Chinese teaching in our school. After the students on the podium finished their speech very excitedly, the audience not only gave applause and encouragement, but also the students stood up and put forward their own views on the content of the speech ... The class was vivid and profound. Suddenly, my heart moved. Since Chinese class can give a speech three minutes before class, why can't students spend a few minutes making homework evaluation before class in math class? The above is my real psychological experience about assigning homework and correcting homework seven years ago, which is still fresh in my memory. I was so impressed because this experience changed the way I corrected my homework and then assigned it. N The specific connotation of "self-evaluation method of homework five minutes before class" After years of practice, this method of correcting homework is easier to operate and implement, and easier to adhere to. The author gives this method a name, that is, "self-evaluation method of homework five minutes before class". That is, five minutes before class, a number of students are randomly selected at the scene (the number depends on the number of homework the day before, usually only a few questions are selected) to tell their own thinking process, problem-solving ideas and matters needing attention, and then other students comment or provide other methods, and the teacher will supplement or evaluate the homework correction. In addition, due to time constraints, for other students who can't communicate in short classes, let them give their own practices on the message board in the classroom. Randomness, in order to ensure the participation of all students, is generally done through the random number selector I asked students to do; Five minutes is the time that normal math class can take out, so it will not have a negative impact on the teaching of the next class; Talking about the thinking process is to expose the students' thinking process, which not only allows teachers to grasp the students' mastery of what they have learned, but also allows students themselves and other students to "know what it is and why". Explaining the topic is a way to save time when time is tight, but it must be based on peer understanding; Matters needing attention not only allow students to have a process of reflection on their work, but also reflect peer assistance; The teacher makes a supplement or evaluation. Generally speaking, students' comments on standard questions may be very good, so teachers don't have to add after each student's speech. As for evaluation, words of encouragement are generally not very useful, so it is better to say less. If students can sublimate and expand what they say, it may be more helpful to students. Autonomy refers to taking students as the main body of evaluation work. Later, in the comment session, the author constantly guided and encouraged students to tell the questioner's intention, which was a more harsh guidance and beneficial attempt for outstanding students. The results of these years are reflected in the following aspects: timely feedback, through the five minutes before class, there will generally be no major problems in the homework handed in, so that the time spent by the teacher in the inspection will be greatly reduced, and the main energy of the teacher in the inspection will be concentrated in the following three aspects: First, help the remaining students who encounter difficulties in their homework and approve their homework face to face; The second is to encourage students who perform well in homework. The third is to control students' thinking mode in time, understand students' mastery of knowledge and difficulties in learning, and give timely guidance. This practice is far more effective than the correction of routine homework. Students' ability of expression and understanding has been improved, and experienced math teachers understand that students participate in solving problems at two different levels. After a period of practice, students' expressions are less incoherent and their explanations are more coherent. Even many times, I find that students speak better than teachers. It creates a platform for students to communicate, and provides every student with an equal opportunity to "speak" and a space to show themselves. The most important thing is to improve students' thinking quality, especially to cultivate students' critical and flexible thinking quality, with good results. Students not only deepen their understanding of concepts, but also improve the breadth and depth of knowledge to varying degrees. In just a few minutes every day, children have less shallow participation and more in-depth questions or opinions: "I suddenly understand why the teacher wants us to prove inference 3 when the homework is half finished: there is only one plane when two parallel straight lines intersect. He wants us to accurately grasp the connotation of a mathematical concept, otherwise we will take a detour. Regarding the concept of parallel straight lines, we often ignore the premise that these two straight lines are in the same plane. Of course, the concept of mathematics is like this, and other concepts must be accurately grasped. " "After doing this homework, I finally understand what nature is! This is a constant feature shared by some objects. " "This assignment gave me a new understanding of the formula and revealed the equivalent relationship between quantity and quantity. If I understood this from the beginning, my thinking would be much smoother when I deduced the cosine formula of the sum of two angles, and there is not only one method! " "When Wei just proved this inequality, he was not bound by the mindset like us. We all proved it by the mathematical induction we just learned, but he proved it directly by the scale method. The process is much simpler. I think Wei Zhao Zhao's flexible way of thinking has inspired me a lot. " "Just comments on wei is also from my heart. At the same time, I feel that if xu teacher can arrange another problem that cannot be solved by mathematical induction when assigning homework, it will be more beneficial to everyone's ability to use knowledge flexibly. " Whenever I look at my children's performance at this time, I really hope I can be a math teacher for a few more years. At the same time, their performance also prompted me to think about the next question. N On the basis of "independent evaluation method of homework five minutes before class", let students participate in the assignment of homework. Just when they began to be complacent about the above work, a voice kept reminding themselves: "Don't forget that students need a self-aware teacher, because when a teacher starts to be complacent about his work, that is, when your work begins to have problems." (See my other article "Education Needs Five Societies" for details. Undoubtedly, although the above-mentioned practices can receive various good results, in the process of assigning homework, teachers still simply assign homework for students to complete, which not only makes students unable to choose the content of homework, but also passively accepts tasks. At the same time, teachers can't know what students are paying attention to in time after learning relevant content. At the same time, the children's words in class also prompted me to make some improvements in my homework, that is, to let students participate in my homework. This measure is very helpful to the cultivation of outstanding students, and this practice needs to be improved at present. In 2003, after learning conic curve, I asked my students to assign an assignment related to it. The result surprised me: "Cut a ham sausage in two at an angle. What do you think the cross section is? " Please prove your conclusion. "This is clearly a question of inquiry learning! In the process of solving this problem, the students also found the relationship between ellipse and circle, and wrote an article "Ellipse and Circle" in the form of a mathematical paper. This paper has achieved good results in the national middle school students' mathematical thesis competition organized by mathematical exchange. This experience not only strengthened my confidence in infiltrating research-based learning into subject teaching. At the same time, it also strengthened my practice of dividing my homework into regular homework (which needs to be handed in every day), math weekly diary and math paper. At the end of 2005, the author participated in the training in Guilin for more than a month, during which he made a bold attempt, that is, instead of finding someone to substitute for the class for more than a month, he first made a study plan for this month and told my students, and at the same time appointed several students in each class to be responsible for the completion of the study plan, and asked someone to report to me by SMS or email every week. Since students have been involved in assigning homework and the "five minutes before class" method has been implemented for some time, it is not surprising that students study independently without a teacher. More than a month has passed without any problems. Although I have been on tenterhooks for more than a month, I am still very grateful to 100 parents for their trust, and I am also very grateful to Mr. Ye Mijian, the principal of Nanning No.2 Middle School in Guangxi where I am located. N domestic related research in today's middle schools, as an indispensable part of China's mathematics teaching, homework assignment and correction do not seem to have many refreshing achievements. What impressed me deeply was "zero homework correction" proposed by Xiong Chuanwu, a scholar of East China Normal University (On zero homework correction for middle school teachers, China Pedagogy Journal, No.5, 2007). The so-called "zero homework correction" means that teachers return the right to correct homework to students, allocate their time to study the problems in students' homework and strengthen individual guidance. The basic links of implementing "zero homework correction" are: students' short training-mutual approval of classroom homework-students correcting "homework problems"-teachers spot-check homework and record problems-teachers and students implement double tracking of learning problems. The conclusion of Xiong Chuanwu's research is that the implementation of "zero homework correction" is beneficial to students' learning; It can promote teachers' "qualitative" dedication; It can enrich the humanistic value and scientific value of middle school education. Specifically, it can achieve the following four effects: (1) reducing workload and improving teaching quality; (2) The relationship between teachers and students has improved, and students respect their teachers and are eager to learn; (3) It can relieve the anxiety of teachers and students; (d) Poor students generally make progress, and top students are better. According to the author's teaching experience, I personally think that to really implement "zero homework correction", teachers' classroom management ability is very demanding, especially the control of time is not very good. At the same time, it has not deviated from the mode of "long-term homework" used by Zhang Siming, a teacher in the middle school attached to Peking University, and "teachers arrange and students finish". Mr. Zhang Siming has done fruitful work in organizing students to carry out "research study". From the homework topics he assigned to students, we can get a glimpse of the whole leopard: "measurement problems (modeling and group activities)"; "TV tower problem (modeling and exploration)"; "The problem of weighing grain piles (modeling, exploration and experiment)"; Problems caused by chronology (exploration); Images and properties of tangent function (exploration); "Discovery in Calculator (Experiment and Discovery)"; Discovery of origami (experiment and exploration); Philippine Series Association (Independent Reading and Exploration); "How high is our East Teaching Building?" ..... These homework, he let the students fill in the "research report" first, and then use the class time to organize students to communicate. I admire Mr. Zhang's courage and confidence in taking out a large number of his own math classes to complete these tasks, which is beyond the ordinary people's ability. N Conclusion: When I was talking about letting students participate in assigning homework and implementing the "five-minute homework evaluation method", a voice asked me: Is there the best way to assign and correct homework? At the end of the article, readers may involuntarily have new worries about the author: when I repeatedly emphasize the way of assigning and correcting homework, will it dilute the essence of letting students finish homework? After all, as far as homework is concerned, the content is far more important than the operation method! Fortunately, I found that in an atmosphere full of doubt, openness and cooperation, my homework and correction methods complement the content of students' homework. Of course, the premise is that teachers need to have a deep understanding of the materials they teach and handle them properly. (See my other article "How far can the math class go?"? Simplicity of teaching materials and the cultivation of students' critical thinking ",included in the seventh issue of Mathematics Bulletin in 2009. Although my practice has been implemented for several years, I still can't answer this question: will this method continue to be effective for my next class of students? When I was talking about letting students participate in the assignment and implementing the "self-evaluation method of homework five minutes before class", a voice asked me: Is there the best way to assign and correct homework? I think this question alone is enough to calm me down from my excitement. A sentence on the back cover of the book Courage in Teaching by Parker J Palmer deeply touched me: excellent teaching cannot be simplified into technology, and excellent teaching comes from teachers' self-identification and self-improvement. To tell the truth, if possible, what I want to do most is to spend as much time correcting homework in front of students, because this is the form of communication with students that I most yearn for, and it is also a natural and effective way that I feel. I think, therefore I am.
