The annual activities to commemorate the International Day of Disabled Persons from 65438 to February 3 are aimed at promoting people's understanding of disability issues, encouraging people to safeguard the dignity of disabled people and safeguarding their rights and happiness. At the same time, it is also to increase the sense of accomplishment of disabled people when they are integrated into political life, social life, economic life and cultural life.
The theme of the International Day of Disabled Persons is based on the goal of enabling disabled people to fully and equally enjoy their human rights and participate in society. This goal was established by the World Programme of Action concerning Disabled Persons and adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1982.
Purpose of the International Day of Disabled Persons
There are 650 million disabled people in the world, accounting for about 10% of the world's total population, and 80% of them are in developing countries. Over the years, with the efforts of the international community, some progress has been made in safeguarding the rights of the disabled and establishing a barrier-free society around the world.
However, due to the environmental, social and legal obstacles that marginalize the disabled, their rights in employment, education and medical care are still restricted to varying degrees. From June, 5438 to February, 2006, the 6th1session of the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, in which Article 27 clearly stipulates that persons with disabilities have the right to equal employment.
However, according to the survey of relevant UN agencies, only a small number of disabled people can find jobs. In many countries, as many as 80% of disabled people can't find a job after reaching working age, which is much higher than that of normal people.
In order to emphasize the equal employment rights of the disabled, the United Nations set the theme of the International Day of Disabled Persons in 2007 as "Providing decent jobs for the disabled", and called on all sectors of society to provide employment opportunities for the disabled, so that they can truly integrate into society and give full play to their potential in society.
