Dezhou Canal Economic Development Zone was established on February 6, 2002. Originally Dezhou Business Development Zone, it was approved by the provincial government as a provincial economic development zone in 2006. It is located at the junction of northwest Shandong and Hebei, in the west of Dezhou City, adjacent to Decheng District in the east, Gucheng County in Hebei Province in the west, Wucheng County in Dezhou City in the south and Jingxian County in Hebei Province in the north. The Millennium Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal passes through the territory. It was one of the 33 industrial and commercial centers in China during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, with rich historical and cultural resources. After the founding of People's Republic of China (PRC), Dezhou is an old industrial base, where Lu Hua Hengsheng, Hengli Electric, Huaneng Power Plant and other established key enterprises are located. It mainly owns six industries: green chemicals, textiles, energy, equipment manufacturing, new materials and modern logistics.
