brief introduction

The assessment of teachers' language proficiency is jointly organized by the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority (HKEAA) and the Hong Kong Education and Manpower Bureau (EMB) and held once a year in March and September respectively. The evaluation test is open to the public for registration. The registration place is the assessment bureau on the 2nd floor of Southorn Centre1Wan Chai MTR Station. The registration fee for each subject is 200 yuan, and the oral test paper and classroom language use fee is 370 yuan. The deadline for registration is about two months before the exam. Candidates who fail to meet the benchmark can make up the exam until they meet the standard.

The Education and Manpower Bureau is responsible for all the books except the one on classroom language.

The first benchmark test was conducted on March 3rd, 20001year. At that time, all new English and Putonghua teachers had to pass the qualification examination within two years, otherwise they could no longer teach these two courses. On the other hand, active teachers can choose to take exams or take recognized courses. February 25-26, 2006 is the last chance for all in-service teachers to obtain qualifications. After that, all unqualified teachers are not allowed to teach in these two languages in class.
