According to Article 8 of the Education Law of the People's Republic of China, educational activities must conform to the public interests of the state and society. The state separates education from religion. No organization or individual may use religion to carry out activities that hinder the national education system.

China's Constitution stipulates: "People's Republic of China (PRC) citizens have freedom of religious belief. No state organ, social organization or individual may compel citizens to believe in or not believe in religion, and may not discriminate against citizens who believe in or not believe in religion. The state protects normal religious activities. No one may use religion to engage in activities that disrupt social order, harm citizens' health or interfere with the national education system. Religious groups and religious affairs are not dominated by foreign forces. "

These provisions of the Constitution are the basis of the principle of separation between education and religion stipulated in the Education Law. In China, religious beliefs are protected by the Constitution, and so are non-religious beliefs. At the same time, the state separates education from religion, and may not use religion to engage in activities that disrupt social order, harm citizens' health or hinder the national education system.
