The pedagogy research section of the University of Tokyo is divided into two major disciplines: comprehensive education science and school education promotion.

The comprehensive education science major of Tokyo University is divided into seven colleges: basic education, comparative education sociology, basic management of vocational learning, university management policy, educational psychology, clinical psychology and physical education.

The school education major of the University of Tokyo includes three colleges: teacher development, educational content development and school development. Each college contains different departments and courses.

The Department of Education of Kyoto University was established in 1949, and the Department of Education of the University was established in 1953. 1988 Kyoto university established the first clinical pedagogy major in Japan, so clinical pedagogy and educational psychology are also strong majors in the school.

The Department of Pedagogy Research of the Graduate School of Kyoto University has a specialty, which is divided into the following eight directions: educational philosophy, educational methodology, clinical pedagogy, educational cognitive psychology, clinical psychology, educational culturology, comparative education policy and higher education.
