Luoyang, referred to as "Luo" for short, was called Luoyi in ancient times. It is a prefecture-level city, a national historical and cultural city, a national regional central city and a sub-central city of the Central Plains urban agglomeration under the jurisdiction of Henan Province, with 7 counties and 7 districts under its jurisdiction. Luoyang has a total area of 15230 square kilometers, of which the urban area is 2274 square kilometers, which is located in the west of Henan Province.
It spans the north and south banks of the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River, bordering Zhengzhou in the east, Sanmenxia in the west, Jiaozuo in the north and Pingdingshan and Nanyang in the south. By the end of 20021,the permanent population of Luoyang was 7.069 million.
Luoyang ranks among the top in the world, with a civilization history of more than 5,000 years, a city history of 4,000 years and a capital construction of 1500 years. Luoyang is one of the birthplaces of Chinese civilization, the eastern starting point of the Silk Road and the center of the Sui and Tang Grand Canal. Thirteen dynasties in history established their capitals in Luoyang, which is the earliest, longest and most numerous city in China.
There are five capital sites in Luoyang: Erlitou Site, Yanshi Mall Site, Eastern Zhou Wangcheng Site, Han and Wei Luoyang City Site, Sui and Tang Luoyang City Site. Longmen Grottoes, China's Grand Canal (Huiluocang Site, Jiacang Site) and Silk Road (Han and Wei Ancient City, Dingdingmen in Luoyang City in Sui and Tang Dynasties, Hanguguan Site in Xin 'an) are three world cultural heritages.
At the end of 20 19, there were 82 A-level scenic spots in Luoyang, including 30 scenic spots above 4A level. Luoyang has Chinese Luoyang Peony Culture Festival, Heluo Cultural Tourism Festival and other festivals. Luoyang won the honor of being an excellent tourist city, a national garden city, a national sanitary city and a national civilized city in China.
