Why should the Education Bureau set up after-school service hours?
In early July of 2002/KLOC-0, the Education Bureau held a press conference to introduce the after-school service and summer trusteeship in compulsory education. The relevant person in charge said at the press conference that the primary school leaves school early in the compulsory education stage, which reduces the learning burden of students, thus solving the problem of parents' difficulty in picking up and dropping off their children. However, parents send their children to off-campus training institutions, which increases the off-campus burden. In view of this situation, the school has set up after-school services, which can not only help students complete their homework, but also allow them to carry out rich club activities such as literature, sports and labor to meet the different needs of students.
It is the right decision for the Education Bureau to prohibit schools from using after-school service hours to teach new courses.
The reason why the Education Bureau arranges after-school services is to prevent parents from sending their children to after-school remedial classes, but to increase their learning burden. Therefore, the Education Bureau will certainly not let schools teach new lessons after school hours. What's the difference between this and extracurricular remedial classes?
The school provides extracurricular services only for children to expand other learning hobbies on the basis of doing their homework, so that children can develop morally, intellectually and physically.
