The predecessor of Shenzhen Vocational College of Information Technology was the merger of Shenzhen Education College, Shenzhen Technical School and Shenzhen Finance and Economics School in 2002. After 20 years of development, it is now a public full-time institution of higher learning approved by the Guangdong Provincial People's Government, put on record by the Ministry of Education and held by the Shenzhen Municipal People's Government.

The school is the first-round construction unit (file B) of China's characteristic high-level vocational colleges and professional construction plan (referred to as "Double High Plan"), a national demonstration (backbone) vocational college, a national demonstration software vocational and technical college, and a pilot institution of the "Sino-German professional automobile electromechanical cooperation project" of the Ministry of Education. At present, there are three national teaching resource libraries for higher vocational education (including 1 optional items).
