Pedagogy is a discipline that studies educational phenomena, laws and development trends. With the development of human civilization, pedagogy has also experienced a long development process. This paper will briefly introduce the development of pedagogy from ancient times to modern times and Eugene Winter's classification of pedagogy as a clue.
In ancient times, the development of pedagogy was mainly concentrated in ancient Greece and Rome. There were a wide range of educational activities in ancient Greece, and philosophers Socrates, Plato and Aristotle all conducted in-depth discussions and studies on educational concepts. Plato's utopia put forward the idea of children's education, emphasizing individualized education according to children's abilities and talents.
In the Middle Ages, the development of pedagogy was influenced by religion. The main goal of education is to cultivate devout faith and spread religious knowledge. Christian monasteries have played an important role in imparting knowledge and educating young people.
The origin of modern pedagogy can be traced back to the Renaissance in16th century. At the beginning of the 20th century, German educator Eugene Winter put forward the classification of pedagogy, which can be divided into three levels: formal pedagogy, content pedagogy and objective pedagogy. Formal pedagogy studies the laws and methods of education, content pedagogy pays attention to the content and curriculum design of education, and objective pedagogy discusses the goal and effect evaluation of education.
To sum up, the development of pedagogy has gone through three stages: ancient, medieval and modern.
