The revival of academy education in the Southern Song Dynasty generally depends on the following reasons: First, the development of Neo-Confucianism promoted the revival of academy education. Neo-Confucianism was founded in the Northern Song Dynasty and matured in the Southern Song Dynasty. The Southern Song Dynasty experienced several ups and downs. Although he occupied Imperial College London's chair several times, he was repeatedly suppressed by powerful people in the DPRK. In order to specialize in academic research, expound the theory of righteousness, and widely spread their own ideas, expand their influence, actively develop academy education, establish academies, promote sexuality, take academies as a forum, contend for academics, and give directions to discuss state affairs. Famous Neo-Confucianists Zhu, Lu Jiuyuan, Ye Shi, Zhen, Wei Liaoweng, Hu Hong, Zhang, etc. are all representatives who actively founded and promoted academy education. Second, although the official school in the Southern Song Dynasty was funded by the state, it often became a mere formality and lost its teaching reality. Scholars travel abroad and say that "if you don't want to sip sooner or later, you will wear fake clothes to become vulgar" and "pedantic is useless." The lack of official schools naturally leads to the shortage of cultural and educational fields, while academies with high teaching quality, flexible forms and vivid style of study are favored by Tuzi and have greater room for development. Thirdly, the corruption of the imperial examination system led to the degeneration of the scholar's atmosphere, and some literati with lofty aspirations and admiration for saints hated the utilitarian scholar's learning. However, the academy advocates high morals and integrity, does not bend over for fame and fortune, gives lectures freely, specializes in learning, and advocates the way of self-cultivation and family planning, which is in sharp contrast with corrupt officials' studies, so it is highly respected by a large number of scholars with high cultural literacy.
In addition, the influence of Buddhist Zen forest and the sustainable development of printing in the Southern Song Dynasty also provided objective and favorable conditions for the revitalization of the academy.
