People's Republic of China (PRC) is located in the east of the Asian continent and on the west coast of the Pacific Ocean. The land area is about 9.6 million square kilometers, second only to Russia and Canada, and it is the third largest country in the world. Our territory starts from the center of Heilongjiang in the north of Mohe River in the north and reaches Zengmu shoal in the south of Nansha Islands in the south, with a distance of about 5,500 kilometers between the north and the south. From the confluence of Heilongjiang and Wusuli rivers in the east to Pamirs in the west, the distance from east to west is about 5200 kilometers.
zone
Millions of years ago, the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau uplifted, which was a major crustal movement in the history of the earth and formed the landform of China. Overlooking the land of China from the air, the terrain is like a ladder, descending gradually from west to east. Influenced by the Indian plate and the Eurasian plate, the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau is rising continuously, with an average elevation of more than 4,000 meters. It is called "the roof of the world" and constitutes the first step of Chinese topography. Mount Qomolangma, the main peak of the Himalayas on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, is 8844.43 meters high, which is the highest peak in the world.
Rivers and lakes
There are many rivers in China, with more than 1500 river basins and an area of 1000 square kilometers. Because most of the major rivers originate from the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, there is a great gap between the source and the estuary, so China is rich in hydraulic resources, with a reserve of 680 million kilowatts, ranking first in the world. The Yangtze River is the largest river in China, with a total length of 6,300 kilometers, second only to the Nile in Africa and the Amazon in South America, and the third largest river in the world.
climate
China is divided into six temperature zones from south to north: equatorial zone, tropical zone, subtropical zone, warm temperate zone, temperate zone and cold temperate zone. The precipitation gradually decreases from southeast to northwest, and the annual average precipitation varies greatly from place to place, reaching more than 1500 mm in the southeast coast and less than 200 mm in the northwest inland.
Land and minerals
The absolute number of cultivated land, forest and grassland in China ranks among the top in the world, but due to the large population, the relative number calculated according to the average population is very small. Known minerals in the world can be found in China, with abundant reserves. At present, there are 158 minerals with proven reserves, ranking third in the world in total reserves.
Animals and plants
China is one of the countries with the largest species of wild animals in the world, with 6,266 species of vertebrates, including 2,404 species of terrestrial vertebrates and 3,862 species of fish, accounting for 10% of the total number of vertebrates in the world. Giant panda, golden monkey, South China tiger, brown eared pheasant, red-crowned crane, Zhu, baiji, Chinese alligator and so on 100 kinds of rare wild animals are famous all over the world.
