Can I share the network through a server (not a router) in MAN?
Requirements: Implement subnet Internet backup line (manually enabled)

Note: After the setup is completed, you can manually switch the WAN port line of the router to change the line.

Prerequisites:

1, which has the right to manage the gateway equipment of the subnet;

2. Prepare another computer with at least two network adapters as the gateway server, such as the computer S below.

Setup steps:

First, install and debug the standby line.

Connect the computer S to the Internet alone and share the Internet with another designated network card E, with the following settings:

Problem: Use the server-client (S/C) mode to share the network of dual adapter computers.

Scheme description: One of the two network adapters of a computer has Internet service, and the Internet service can be shared with other computers regardless of the type of adapter. The scheme adopts the server and client mode, that is, the dual adapter computer serves as the gateway server, providing agents for all other computers to access the Internet. The response speed of the gateway server will directly affect the internet access speed.

Scheme implementation: (Take windows XP operating system as an example only)

1, hardware preparation.

A, determining gateway computers, such as gateway computer S and common computer C (automatically obtaining IP);

B connect computer c or router (the range must be changed) to network adapter e of S .. Note: Idle network adapter to connect to S. ..

2. The gateway server is connected to the Internet.

Connect another network adapter of to the Internet. Note: It cannot be a network adapter E. ..

3. Set the gateway server correctly.

Open the network connection of S, find the network card used in the previous operation, and find the "Internet connection sharing" option in "Properties-Advanced" and tick it.

If there are more than 2 network adapters, you need to select the correct network adapter in the suboption.

After the above steps, the computer or router connected to the network card E can surf the Internet, and the IP is actively assigned by S through DHCP.

Second, set up the router.

1. Clear the gateway option of the WAN port and set the gateway in the subnet DHCP option as the router IP. If the operator's DNS is different, it will be troublesome, because the DNS server address needs to be changed after each switch.

2. Check the IP of adapter E of server S and set the router to the same network segment. Or set the router's second connection (if the router supports it) to the same network segment.

Description:

As set above, the default IP of the server S is192.168.1.The DHCP scope is192.168.1.0.

If you need to change, you must complete the Internet sharing settings, and the DHCP service will be lost after the IP of server S is changed.

After changing the IP of S, you can only set the IP connection service period of the router manually.

Suggestion: The IP of the router remains unchanged, and the IP of the shared adapter of server S is changed to the same subnet.

3. After completing the above steps, if you want to switch lines, just connect the network card E and the router WAN port with a network cable.
