What was the first school specifically for education in China?
The establishment of China Christian School originated from the missionary activities of London missionary Ma Lixun (1782 ~ 1834). Ma Lixun came to China in 1807, and founded Huaying College in Malacca in 18 18 to teach the children of local overseas Chinese. It is regarded as the first missionary school founded by Protestantism, aiming at educating China people. The purpose of this school is to introduce western culture to the people of China and China to the west (mainly Britain). Huaying College is a primary school with a short history and few students. In addition to teaching, its courses are superficial reading, writing and literacy, and it is impossible to undertake the mission of communicating Chinese and Western cultures. Ma Lixun's own educational activities are far less important than his translation of old and new bibles and compilation of the first Chinese-English dictionary. Because of these translations and dictionaries, missionaries who came to China later provided language convenience and enabled missionary activities to be carried out. After Ma Lixun's death, missionaries in China established the Ma Lixun Education Association on 1835, which played an obvious role in promoting the cause of church education. It aims to promote English teaching and make China people acquire "all kinds of western knowledge", and for this reason, it initiated and founded Ma Lixun School.
