Shantou University is a provincial comprehensive university approved by the State Council 198 1. It is an institution of higher learning jointly established by the Ministry of Education, Guangdong Province and Li Ka-shing Foundation. It is a key discipline construction institution of high-level universities in Guangdong Province, and the only public university in the world that is continuously funded by the Li Ka-shing Foundation, a private foundation.
