For many years, Professor Yan has devoted himself to the application of mathematical statistics in the field of quality management. He has a strong sense of responsibility for applying statistical methods to solve practical problems in economic construction, and has achieved fruitful results in compiling teaching materials for quality engineers and popularizing six sigma management. He was awarded the National Outstanding Contribution Award for Quality Management by AQSIQ.
As one of the pioneers of mathematical statistics in China, it is under the impetus of a group of mathematical statisticians such as Yan that the major of mathematical statistics was opened in Fudan University, Nankai University and East China Normal University for the first time in China. This is the first time that a large number of talents have been trained for the major of mathematical statistics in China.
1977 after the resumption of the college entrance examination, Yan took eight disciples from the first batch of students to open a discussion class to discuss and study mathematical statistics. These students have made their own achievements now. This kind of training method is often used in future teaching, which has trained a lot of urgently needed talents for the country. Among them, there are more than 40 master students and 0/8 doctoral students/kloc, which can be described as peaches and plums all over the world. Great achievements have also been made in zero-failure data processing, accelerated life test, parameter design and degradation data processing, and more than 70 related papers have been published.
It is the recognition of the role and value of mathematical statistics in production practice and economic construction that makes Yan take promoting this work as his greatest pleasure. In 200 1 year, China established the professional qualification examination system for quality professionals and technicians, and 66-year-old Yan suddenly got busy again, compiling teaching materials and training tutors, which has continued to this day. In Yan's words, the application value of mathematical statistics in economic construction has been recognized by the government, and I am particularly excited to be promoted by the competent department of the state! I will do anything to promote mathematical statistics.
Due to Yan's contribution to mathematical statistics in the field of quality, Shanghai Institute of Quality Management awarded him the title of lifelong researcher. During this period, Yan did several "not easy" things. First, the journal Applied Probability and Statistics was published in cooperation with Shanghai Institute of Quality Management Science. The other is to successfully run the "Postgraduate Course of Modern Statistical Quality Management" for on-the-job personnel.
On June 27th, 2005, 65438+, a graduation ceremony was held for two-year advanced postgraduate courses. Twenty-four high-quality workers from all walks of life got their graduation certificates. The significance of this certificate is extraordinary, because it is the first time for China to offer an advanced postgraduate course closely related to quality management, and its holding has promoted the application of statistics in quality management science.
Yan has trained a group of talents who understand statistics, quality and can be applied to practice in the field of quality science. He not only co-edited a set of Six Six Sigma management series initiated by China with other teachers, but also came to Shanghai Institute of Quality Management Science every week to discuss statistical quality issues with researchers, and sometimes taught some new methods and introduced some new ideas. He hopes that he can cultivate more people who know statistics, quality and can be applied to practice for the field of quality science, so that such people can turn statistics into productive forces. Regarding the Six Sigma Management, which is now applied to production practice, Yan said that only by making full use of the tools of mathematical statistics can we pick apples hanging higher, otherwise we will just pick apples on the ground. Yan hopes that he can pass on what he has learned to students, so that more people can pick apples hanging on trees.
