Urumqi vocational university, founded in 1985, is the only comprehensive full-time general higher vocational college in Urumqi and the first higher vocational college established in Xinjiang after the reform and opening up. In 2007, with the approval of the People's Government of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, the former urumqi vocational university merged with Urumqi Institute of Adult Education to form a new urumqi vocational university, with a management system of co-construction of districts and cities and focusing on cities.
Urumqi vocational university has five campuses, covering an area of 2 109.5 mu. Xinjiang Institute of Technology, referred to as "New Institute of Technology", is an engineering college located in Urumqi, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and has been selected as a new engineering research and practice project.
The college was established in 1958. It started as Xinjiang Coal Mine School, passed through Xinjiang Coal Mine College, Urumqi Coal Mine School and Xinjiang Coal College, and 1994 was renamed Xinjiang Institute of Technology. 20 12 was upgraded to Xinjiang Institute of Engineering with the approval of the Ministry of Education in March.
