The school was founded in 1958, formerly known as Fujian Metallurgical Institute and Fujian Metallurgical Industry School. 1997 was renamed as Fujian Vocational and Technical School. Since 2000, it has been affiliated to the Education Department of Fujian Province, and was recognized as a national key secondary vocational school in 2004. In 20 14, it was recognized by the Ministry of education as the first batch of "national model schools for the reform and development of secondary vocational education" in China, and in 20 10, it was also recognized as the first batch of "national model schools for the development of secondary vocational education" in China.

The school covers an area of 80 mu with a building area of 53,000 square meters. There are nearly 20 majors in seven categories, including processing and manufacturing, information technology, transportation, finance and trade, tourism services, culture and art, and civil engineering and water conservancy.

The school has 262 teaching and administrative staff, full-time teachers 186, 30% professional technicians with senior titles, 47 teachers with postgraduate degrees or master's degrees, the first batch of provincial professional leaders and key construction professional leaders, and 89.8% double-qualified teachers.
