The Catalogue of Undergraduate Majors in Colleges and Universities is a catalogue of undergraduate majors in colleges and universities formulated and revised by the Ministry of Education (formerly the State Education Commission), and it is one of the basic guiding documents of higher education.
The division, name and category of majors are stipulated, which is an important basis for setting and adjusting majors, implementing talent training, arranging enrollment, awarding degrees, guiding employment, conducting educational statistics and predicting talent demand. Since the reform and opening up, China has made four large-scale adjustments to the subject catalogue and specialty setting.

The college code is uniformly arranged by the Ministry of Education, and the number is five digits. In order to facilitate the college entrance examination students to fill in their volunteers, the provincial education examination institutes will rearrange the institutions with enrollment plans in the region (including provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions) with the number of four. Due to the changes in running colleges and universities every year, the codes of colleges and universities have been adjusted.
As of June, 20 19, the Ministry of Education announced 2956 colleges and universities nationwide, including 2688 colleges and universities (including 257 independent colleges) and 268 adult colleges and universities.
