After graduating from university, Li Chunyu was appointed as an investigator of the Geological Survey Institute of the Ministry of Agriculture and Mines. From graduation to the early 1930s, I devoted myself to geological survey and mineral survey. First, together with Zhao Yaceng and Wang Hengsheng, they worked tirelessly and traveled long distances to Kaiping Basin in Hebei Province in the north and coastal areas in Zhejiang and Fujian Province in the south, and conducted a large number of geological and mineral surveys. Especially in the autumn of 1929, together with Tan Xichou, he overcame all kinds of difficulties and risked his life to go deep into the remote western Sichuan Plateau. He traveled all over Ganzi and Aba for 25 months and made a pioneering geological survey, becoming the first China geologist to enter this area for geological investigation and research. During this period, he wrote more than 20 papers and put forward many new understandings and opinions. The monograph "Geology and Mineral Resources in Xikang, Sichuan" (with 40 attached drawings) comprehensively describes the regional geology, structure and mineral resources in Sichuan, which opens a way for the study of geology and mineral resources in Sichuan. It is an enlightening work to study and understand the geological and mineral resources in the western Sichuan Plateau, and it still has its important reference value. In the article "Genesis of the Upper Yangtze River Valley", the development history of Jinsha River in the upper Yangtze River is put forward for the first time, and the important phenomenon that Jinsha River captured the Red River near Shigu Hutiaojian in Yunnan is demonstrated. Through the study of Permian strata and structure, he found that Zhongliangshan Coal Mine in Sichuan was a big coal field after the establishment of People's Republic of China (PRC), which was completed and put into operation and became an important energy base in Chongqing Industrial Zone, and Li Chunyu made an important contribution to it. 1933 published "Introduction to Petroleum Geology in Sichuan", which became a guiding work for China to study petroleum geology in Sichuan in his early years.
1in the spring of 934, Li Chunyu took the exam for studying abroad at public expense in his hometown of Henan. After passing the initial test, I went to Nanjing Ministry of Education for a second interview and was admitted to study in the UK. At that time, considering that few people in the Central Bureau of Geological Exploration were proficient in German, especially those engaged in structure and mineral deposits, Ding Wenjiang suggested that Li Chunyu study in Germany instead, and go to Hans Stiehler, a geologist, for further study. For this suggestion, Li Chunyu didn't consider personal gain or loss, but considered that Ding Wenjiang's suggestion was beneficial to the development of geological cause in China, and accepted it gladly, and went to the Ministry of Education to change the certificate of studying abroad. After arriving in Berlin, Germany, it was very difficult because of the language barrier. Although the tutor Stiller gave him lectures and talked with each other in English, Li Chunyu made up his mind to learn German well for the need of studying in Germany for a long time. In order to create an environment for learning German, he moved to an old German lady's house far away and took a German class at Berlin University. During this period, he seldom took geology classes. At first, Professor Stiehler suspected that he was addicted to learning and neglected his studies. But when I was studying German a few months later, I went to Stiehler to talk with him in German. He was puzzled and praised his spirit and perseverance. In the spring of 1935, at the invitation of Wang Hengsheng, I went to Zurich to join the field practice team led by Paul Negley, a famous mineral deposit geologist, and traveled all over Switzerland, where I learned a lot under the guidance of Professor Negri. They visited the Swiss Alps glacier with their teacher Li Siguang. After returning to Berlin, with the support and encouragement of Li Siguang, Li Chunyu decided to go to Germany to do his dissertation.
