Nanchang Guangnan School was founded in 1958, formerly known as Nanchai Middle School. In 2000, it was taken over by Xihu District Government and became a public nine-year compulsory school. Since its founding nearly 50 years ago, the school has adhered to the Party's educational policy, established a team of dedicated teachers and trained a large number of high-quality talents. Among them are Xu Yanmei, who won the diving championship at the 20th Seoul Olympic Games, and Qian Feng, who won the national and world model airplane competitions eight times. The school is located in the south of Bayi Square, covering an area of about 20 mu. It is adjacent to Mao Heng International Flower City Commercial and Residential District in the east and north, high-rise residential buildings in the province in the west, and Dingguang Street which has just been widened to 12 meters in the south. The traffic is very convenient.

In 2003, with the strong support of the municipal and district governments, more than 20 million yuan was invested to carry out a comprehensive and thorough overall transformation of the school. The newly-built teaching complex has intelligent network multimedia classrooms, advanced science, chemistry and nature laboratories, language lab, computer room, labor technology activity room, library, electronic reading room and other first-class modern teaching facilities. In addition, there is a 27-meter-high comprehensive art gymnasium with a heated swimming pool, music, art, calligraphy, dance room and indoor basketball court. The whole project is scheduled to be completed and put into use in August 2004.

The school has more than 80 primary and secondary school teachers, including 26 senior teachers. More than 80% teachers have extensive knowledge and rich experience in education and teaching. Over the years, the enrollment rate of key students is higher than the average level in Nanchang.
