The shape of lightning:

Long-distance lightning discharge produces strong current, accompanied by intense luminescence, high temperature, electromagnetic radiation, shock wave and rumbling thunder. Light, electromagnetism and acoustic emission are different physical effects and phenomena produced by the same lightning discharge process, and the meanings of lightning and lightning are often difficult to distinguish.

The research shows that due to the gradual accumulation of cloud charges in thunderstorm clouds and the separation of positive and negative charge centers, a strong electric field is generated in the clouds, or between clouds and the sky, and the electric field intensity in a certain local area reaches the air breakdown threshold (generally above 150~250 kV/m), which forms the forerunner of conductivity.

After the leader is formed, it can spread itself in that strong electric field, so that the lightning passage between clouds can be expanded from several kilometers to dozens of kilometers, and the length of the lightning passage between clouds and the ground may exceed several kilometers, reaching more than 10 kilometers.
