The application assessment system is a form for colleges or disciplines to independently assess and recruit doctoral students according to the opinions of tutors. It refers to the recruitment method that candidates apply, submit relevant materials, pass the preliminary examination and comprehensive assessment, and enroll according to the principle of merit-based admission.

Candidates who participate in the "application evaluation system" selection will no longer participate in the preliminary examination of doctoral enrollment organized by the school.

The basic procedure of the "application-examination system" for selecting doctoral students includes four links: individual application, subject examination and college examination, and examination and approval by the graduate enrollment leading group.

The application evaluation system refers to the screening of students applying for doctoral degrees in colleges and universities, and those who pass the examination accept the ability test. It is hoped that in this way, doctoral students with strong scientific research ability rather than strong test-taking ability will be selected.

The "application-review" doctoral students will face several hurdles in the next three or four years. 1. Students must publish at least 1 professional academic papers in three authoritative journals recognized by the school and at least 1 professional academic papers in CSSCI and CSCI journals before applying for graduation thesis defense.

Secondly, the graduation thesis should strive to be selected into the "100 Excellent Doctoral Thesis Training Project" of the school. Finally, the graduation thesis has to go through two repeated checks and double-blind evaluation by three off-campus experts, which should get excellent evaluation.

Otherwise, the graduation thesis defense will be postponed for at least one year. Therefore, there is no written test in the application examination system, and candidates who participate in the selection of the "application examination system" will no longer participate in the initial doctoral entrance examination organized by the school.

But some universities also have exams, such as the English exam of Peking University.
