Chengdu Open University (Chengdu Radio and TV University) was established with the approval of the Ministry of Education of People's Republic of China (PRC). Its distance education was founded in 1979, and it is one of the 44 provincial radio and television universities in China.
In 2009, according to the requirements of the Notice of General Office of Chengdu Municipal Committee and General Office of Chengdu Municipal People's Government on Building Chengdu Community College by Relying on Chengdu Radio and TV University, Chengdu Community College was officially put into operation to carry out community education for citizens.
As a university directly under the Chengdu Municipal People's Government, the school is under the leadership of the Chengdu Municipal People's Government and the administrative department of education, and under the guidance of the National Open University (China Radio and TV University), the Provincial Department of Education and the Municipal Education Bureau, in accordance with the management system of "overall planning, graded running, graded management and graded responsibility".
There are currently 67,000 students. Jurisdiction 16 district (city, county) level branch schools, 4 industry system branch schools, 10 secondary colleges and more than 40 teaching points. The total number of full-time teachers in the whole system is 1.700, and there are 64 full-time teachers in Chengdu Radio and TV University. Senior professional titles account for 53% of full-time teachers, and full-time teachers with graduate education account for 2 1%.
Chengdu Open University has three campuses: Jianshe Road Campus, Tianfu New District Campus and Dahua Campus, with a total construction area of 5 1 1,000 square meters. After more than 40 years of school-running practice, the school has formed an open education school-running system including 14 directly affiliated teaching points, 12 county-level public branch schools and 27 learning centers.
There are 22 district (city) and county-level community education colleges, 26/kloc-0 township (street) community education schools and 3043 village (community) education workstations.
Relying on academic education, continuing education, community education and elderly education, the school serves rural revitalization, community governance and industrial transformation and upgrading in Chengdu, cultivates 300,000 applied undergraduate talents, builds the largest lifelong learning distance education network and multimedia learning resources in Chengdu, and serves more than 2.8 million real-name learners on various learning platforms.
