How to understand the relationship between democracy and education in Dewey's educational philosophy
"Democracy is the starting point and destination of Dewey's educational philosophy. Therefore, it is very necessary to grasp the concept of "democracy" reasonably before interpreting the logic of "the relationship between democracy and education" in Dewey's educational philosophy. As mentioned above, the importance of the concept of "democracy", just as "justice" is to Plato's educational philosophy and "freedom" is to Rousseau's educational philosophy, is the central concept to deeply grasp the connotation of their respective educational thoughts. However, due to our general understanding of Dewey's educational philosophy, we don't regard "the relationship between democracy and education" as the fundamental issue in his educational thought, so we often regard "experience", "life" and "children" as the central concepts in Dewey's educational philosophy from different angles. Of course, the position and value of these concepts in Dewey's educational philosophy are undoubtedly remarkable, and most of Dewey's important educational propositions are closely related to these concepts. However, in connection with the realistic foundation and ideological origin of Dewey's educational philosophy, it is obvious that the concept of "democracy" as the center can better grasp Dewey's classics as a classic writer in the history of education.
