Wuxi Branch of Southeast University was founded in April 1988, and Southeast University was founded in May 1952, with the former Institute of Technology of Nanjing University as the main body, merged into relevant departments of Fudan University, Jiaotong University, Zhejiang University and Jinling University, and established Nanjing Institute of Technology as the main body in the original site of Central University. In May, 1988, the school was renamed Southeast University.

Southeast University is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education of People's Republic of China (PRC), and it is one of the first batch of world-class universities (Class A), "985 Project" and "2 1 1 Project".

Wuxi Branch of Southeast University, relying on the three national "first-class disciplines" of its headquarters, has established a National Model Microelectronics College in Wuxi, with three undergraduate majors (information engineering, electronic science and technology, and Internet of Things engineering), 1 electronic information postgraduate major (12 research direction), 1 microelectronics and solid-state electronics, electronic science and technology (integration)
