Northeast Forestry University, founded in 1952, was established on the basis of Forestry Department of Agricultural College of Zhejiang University and Forestry Department of Northeast Agricultural College. It is a key university under the national "2 1 1 project" and "innovation platform for superior disciplines" jointly established by the Ministry of Education, the State Forestry Administration, the Ministry of Education and the People's Government of Heilongjiang Province.

The school is located in Harbin, the largest state-owned forest center in China, with a campus area of 136 hectares. It has teaching, research and practice bases such as Maoershan Experimental Forest Farm (Maoershan National Forest Park) and Liangshui Experimental Forest Farm (Liangshui National Nature Reserve), with a total area of 33,000 hectares.

The school is a multidisciplinary university with forestry as its advantage, featuring forestry engineering, combining agriculture, science, engineering, economics, management, literature, law, medicine and art. At present, it has a graduate school, 17 colleges and 1 teaching department. There are 62 undergraduate majors, 9 postdoctoral research stations, 1 postdoctoral research stations, 8 first-class doctoral programs, 38 doctoral programs in two disciplines, 19 first-class master programs, 96 master programs in two disciplines, 3 first-class disciplines in 65438, and two disciplines 1 1 country. There are 2 key disciplines (cultivation) of the State Forestry Administration, 7 key first-class disciplines in Heilongjiang Province and 3 leading talent echelons in Heilongjiang Province. There is a national training base for life science and technology talents jointly approved by the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Education, and a national training base for basic scientific research and teaching talents (biology) approved by the Ministry of Education. It is a pilot school of national education system reform, national outstanding engineers and outstanding agricultural and forestry talents education and training plan.
