8 16 underground nuclear project is located in Bai Tao Street (formerly Baitao Town), Fuling District, Chongqing, adjacent to Wujiang River, and the cave body is hidden in Jinshan. The military tunnel used to be a nuclear factory entity (unproductive and radiation-free), with a total length of about 20 kilometers. 1966 September, China's second nuclear raw material industrial base-816 project was established here. 1967 officially started. After 17 years of construction, more than 60,000 construction troops have been invested. 1984, the project came to an end, but with the need of international situation and national economic strategy adjustment, it was urgently stopped. The 86 th Army Cave has a three-layer main cave system with a total length of more than 20 kilometers. The tourist resources in the cave are: 8 16 nuclear army cave, main cave of nuclear power plant, nuclear reactor hall, nuclear waste disposal site, "pot bottom", central control room, exhaust tower, etc.

In September 2009, the 8 16 project site was listed as a cultural protection unit in Chongqing. On February 2, 2006, the site of 8 16 project was listed as "the second batch of China 20th century architectural heritage". In 20061October 27th, 65438 and 8 16 projects (8 16 scenic spots) were selected into the China Industrial Heritage Protection List. On July 29th, 2008, it was rated as a national AAAA tourist scenic spot.

8 16 project is an important representative project in the history of China's third-line construction. At the same time, as a former nuclear power plant entity, the 8 16 project is open to the public in the form of tourism products, which is rare at home and abroad. The 8 16 project is also a rare national defense education project.
