In August 2004, the school was listed as a key secondary vocational school at or above the provincial level and a provincial backbone demonstration secondary vocational school by the Provincial Department of Education. In July, 2005, the secondary nursing specialty of the school was identified as "the key construction specialty point of secondary vocational schools in Guangdong Province" by the Provincial Department of Education. In February 2008, the school was approved by the Provincial Health Department to become the "General Practice Training Base" in Shantou. Since 2000, the school and the School of Medicine of Shantou University have jointly run a school, becoming the only teaching point for general practice in the School of Medicine of Shantou University. In 2005, an agreement was further reached to jointly run schools for adult majors, and teaching points were added for adult majors in Shantou University Medical College.
