Convention on the Rights of the Child

The Convention on the Rights of the Child applies to children all over the world, that is,1anyone under the age of 8. The United Nations1989165438+1Resolution No.25 of the 44th UN General Assembly was adopted on October 20th, and it was the first legally binding international agreement to protect children's rights, which came into effect globally on September 2nd, 1990.

Since the founding of the United Nations, the happiness and rights of children have been a major issue. At the1978th meeting of the United Nations Commission on Human Rights, Professor Adam Lopasa of Poland (later chairman of the convention drafting working group) initiated the drafting of the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Drafting process

Poland submitted a draft convention on the rights of the child to the United Nations General Assembly. From 65438 to 0979, the United Nations Commission on Human Rights began to draft the Convention on the Rights of the Child. In the same year, Poland submitted an amendment to the draft Convention on the Rights of the Child to the Commission on Human Rights. The Commission on Human Rights authorized an indefinite working group to continue its work on the text.

1984, the United nations general assembly requested the commission on human rights to make every effort to complete the draft convention and submit it to the general assembly for adoption. 1988, the United Nations General Assembly once again requested the Commission on Human Rights to give priority to the work on the draft convention and strive to complete the drafting of the full text of the convention in 19, that is, to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the publication of the Declaration on the Rights of the Child and the establishment of the International Year of the Child 10.

During the period from 1979 to 19, the Human Rights Committee studied the draft convention in detail, and completed the drafting of the convention as scheduled on 1989, and submitted it to the United Nations General Assembly through the Economic and Social Council. 1989165438+1On October 20th, the United Nations General Assembly adopted this convention.
