Pragmatic pedagogy is an educational trend of thought that rose in the United States at the beginning of the 20th century. Its representative figures are American philosophers and educators, such as Dewey and kilpatrick (187 1- 1965). Representative works include Dewey's Democracy and Education and Ke Qubo's Democracy and Education.

Dewey is the founder of pragmatic pedagogy in the 20th century and the main representative of modern education. Dewey's educational thought is:

Dewey summarized the essence of education as "education is life, education is growth, and education is the transformation and reorganization of experience".

As for the purpose of education, he thinks that education "does not go beyond its purpose", and the purpose of school education is to ensure the growth of children through the power of organization.

On 19 18, Ke Qubo, a student of Dewey, started from Dewey's educational thought of "learning by doing", based on his "problem teaching method" and according to the theory of internal drive and incidental learning, created a teaching organization form and method. Its purpose is to overcome the disadvantages of traditional teaching, such as rigid classroom teaching, only attaching importance to book knowledge, passive learning of students, and isolated and scattered subject teaching. It abolished the class teaching system, broke the discipline boundary and abandoned the traditional teaching materials. The process of teaching with this teaching method is:

(1) Students put forward the purpose of learning (problems to be solved) from the real life environment according to their own interests and needs;

(2) Make a work plan to achieve the goal;

(3) In the natural state, the work is completed through practical activities by applying specific materials;

(4) inspection results. This teaching form has played a positive role in overcoming the disadvantages of traditional teaching. However, there are various difficulties and problems in teaching guidance, equipment and textbook compilation, especially the students' inability to obtain systematic scientific knowledge, which affects the teaching quality.

John dewey (1 859101October 20th-1June 9521) is an American philosopher, educator and master of pragmatism. If Peirce founded the pragmatic method and william james established the pragmatic truth view, then Dewey built the pragmatic theory building. His works cover science, art, religious ethics, politics, education, sociology, history and economics, making pragmatism a unique cultural phenomenon in the United States.

William Hurd Keberqu (1871-1965) is an American progressive educator. He devoted his whole life to explaining Dewey's educational philosophy, so that ordinary teachers could accept progressive educational ideas and put them into practice. He expounded the learning theory of progressive education and put forward the design teaching method (also called unit teaching method).
