According to the Compulsory Education Law of People's Republic of China (PRC), China implements a nine-year compulsory education system from primary school to junior high school, and students' tuition and miscellaneous fees are free during compulsory education. In cities, although the fees of ordinary primary schools and junior high schools are relatively low, about 200~700 yuan RMB per year, some schools with better teachers will charge fees on the grounds of "sponsorship fees". In rural areas, nine-year primary and secondary education has been free since 2007, but there are few junior high schools in rural areas, and even one county has only one junior high school.
