The Institute of Continuing Education, formerly known as the Institute of Adult Education, is a second-level teaching unit established in universities specializing in adult education, short-term training and other academic and non-academic education. Its level is the same as other secondary colleges in schools such as Law School and School of Economics and Management, and it is a branch of the university.

With the continuous progress of society, the continuous reform of education and the continuous expansion of adult education, the original forms of adult education can no longer meet the needs of society. At present, the college of continuing education in universities is mainly engaged in adult education, self-study examination, distance network education and short-term training, which is an important part of higher education.
